Jocelyn let out a cold laugh.
She had almost forgotten about the "devoted husband" image Adrian had so carefully curated at the recent auction. It had certainly boosted his charm offensive.
Now, women everywhere were practically hailing him as the nation's most eligible bachelor—or, rather, the ultimate husband goal.
Handsome, filthy rich, and completely doting on his wife? Men like that were supposed to be rarer than unicorns.
But Jocelyn was done playing the dutiful wife to this supposedly perfect man.
"From now on, I won't be attending any of your events," she said.
Adrian: "How can you not attend? You're required to be at certain business functions."
Jocelyn: "Don't you have your little sidepiece? You can take her. It'd be the perfect opportunity to show everyone how the great Mr. Lowell doesn't just dote on his wife, but takes excellent care of his own brother's widow, too."
Adrian's expression darkened.
"Jocelyn, can you drop it? Did you forget what's written in black and white in our divorce agreement?"
"Until the divorce is officially announced, you're obligated to keep up the act. You signed it yourself."
Jocelyn raised an eyebrow, a mocking gleam in her dark eyes.
"And if I don't want to play along anymore, what exactly are you going to do about it?"
Adrian had clearly anticipated this.
"Then you can forget about the five hundred million."
"Is that so?"
"At most, you'll walk away with a small apartment and a car. Do you really think you can survive on just an apartment and a car?"
Jocelyn stayed silent for a long moment.
Arguing with Adrian was just exhausting.
"Jocelyn, think this through. Diana Evans will practically never let you back into the Evans family now. You'll be on your own. With that five hundred million, as long as you budget yourself, you can live comfortably. But without it..."
Adrian's expression held a thinly veiled look of contempt.
"Without that money, given your capabilities, I'm afraid your future is going to be very difficult."
A faint, almost imperceptible smile touched Jocelyn's lips.
"Then I guess... we'll just have to wait and see."
Adrian furrowed his brows.
"That day you and your sister-in-law had car sex... didn't you think something was a little off about that?"
Adrian froze.
"What do you mean?"
Jocelyn turned and walked back inside as she spoke.
"Figure it out yourself, Adrian. You can't be so stupid that you only think with your lower half."
With that, the heavy door slammed shut.
Adrian stood outside, so furious he wanted to kick the door down.
But Jocelyn's words echoed in his mind.
Off?
His self-control had indeed been unusually weak that day.
He had always assumed it was because he'd had a little to drink and finished that bowl of herbal broth at dinner.
Could it be...
