Julian asked, "Are you coming with me?"
Sarah nodded vigorously. "Absolutely. I need to see for myself that Jo is safe, or I'll lose my mind."
"Alright, go get ready."
Just as Sarah stepped out of the office, Liam finally returned her call.
Sarah snapped at him, "Oh, so now you decide to call back? Too late!"
Liam was bewildered. "Hey, beautiful, I have a life too, you know? I can't be glued to my phone 24/7."
Sarah retorted, "The crisis is handled. I don't need you anymore. I'm busy. Bye."
On the other end of the line, Liam shook his head in amusement.
A buddy next to him couldn't help but tease, "A woman who dares to hang up on Liam Bancroft? She must be something special. Who was that?"
Liam gave a nonchalant laugh.
"A woman I wouldn't marry if you held a gun to my head. She's got zero feminine charm. But as a bro? She's top-tier."
Ethan's efficiency was truly unmatched.
In no time at all, he had negotiated with an airline and chartered a private flight directly to Crestwood.
But right as they were about to head to the airport, Sarah changed her mind.
"Mr. Vance, I don't think I'll go after all."
Julian looked at her. "Why not?"
Sarah coughed awkwardly a couple of times.
"I just remembered I have some really urgent stuff to take care of here, so I can't make it."
Julian said, "If you go, it'll bring her a lot of comfort."
Sarah blurted out, "No, if you go, it'll bring her even more comfort."
A heavy silence fell over them.
Sarah coughed again. "What I mean is, you're much better at handling emergencies than I am, Mr. Vance. If I go, I'll probably just get motion sickness and slow you down. It's better if I stay out of the way and wait for updates at home."
Julian stayed silent for a moment before replying, "Alright."
As she watched him quickly walk away, Sarah opened her mouth.
"Mr. Vance."
Julian stopped and turned around.
"Yes?"
Sarah said, "I... I just wanted to say, please be careful out there."
Julian nodded. "I will. Thank you."
It wasn't until he was completely out of sight that Sarah muttered to herself, "You're welcome."
