The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 220

Julian reached out, his hand gently cupping the back of Jocelyn's neck, and with a soft pull, he drew her into his embrace.

His familiar scent filled her senses, wrapping her in an indescribable feeling of safety, like a pair of magical hands sweeping away all the terror and panic inside her.

Jocelyn's tears fell uncontrollably, soaking into his expensive coat.

Sometimes, crying without making a sound was the most painful thing in the world.

That kind of soul-crushing helplessness was something you could only understand if you had lived it.

When she had finally cried herself out, Jocelyn pulled away from Julian's chest.

She wiped her eyes and asked, her voice raspy, "Why are you here?"

Julian unzipped the bag at his feet and pulled out a piece of clothing.

It was a lightweight down jacket.

"Take off your coat and put this on."

Jocelyn obediently shrugged off her jacket, asking as she did, "Did you really come all this way just to bring me a jacket?"

"Yes. Sarah said you were dressed too lightly and was worried you'd freeze. I'm actually here on her behalf."

"But how did you get here?"

"By plane."

"Even a commercial flight wouldn't get you here this fast. I only called Sarah a little over two hours ago."

"I chartered a flight."

Jocelyn froze.

"You chartered an entire plane?"

"Yes."

Something brushed gently against Jocelyn's heart.

A warm, fluttering sensation.

Was it just the new jacket doing its job?

A strange, subtle tension filled the confined space of the car.

Desperate to break the mood, Jocelyn tried to make a joke.

"I half expected you to pull a move out of a romance novel and fly a helicopter here to rescue me."

The moment the words left her mouth, the atmosphere felt even weirder.

Thankfully, Julian remained perfectly calm and collected.

"Chartering a plane is about as dramatic as I get."

Jocelyn let out a small laugh.

"I was just kidding."

Julian added casually, "Though, I actually do own a few planes."

Jocelyn's jaw dropped.
