But because their plans had changed, they didn't head back to Northwood. Instead, they found a nearby hotel for the night.

The hotel was instantly at full capacity.

The front desk informed them there was only one room left, but it had two beds.

Jocelyn glanced back at the pitch-black night outside and turned to Julian.

"Do you mind?"

Julian smiled.

"As long as you don't mind, I'm fine."

She was practically a divorcee by now. Why the hell would she care?

As the receptionist handed over the room keys, she added with a smile.

"If you two don't want to sleep apart, you can always push the beds together."

It wouldn't have been a big deal, but the girl's comment made Jocelyn instantly flush with embarrassment.

Julian took the key, completely unfazed.

"Thank you."

The room was at the very end of the hallway.

It seemed the hotel was doing incredible business tonight.

He swiped the card and they walked in.

Julian asked, "Which bed do you want?"

Jocelyn took a look around.

"The one on the outside. I like being by the window."

Julian: "Alright."

The cramped space was light-years away from the high-end luxury he was accustomed to. The beds were so narrow that Jocelyn couldn't help but worry his tall, broad-shouldered frame would feel suffocated in such a cramped space.

The room suddenly fell dead silent.

They both sat on the edge of their respective beds, neither saying a word.

When their eyes met, they both let out a small laugh.

Julian said, "I'll step outside first. You go take a shower, and I'll come back in when you're done."

Jocelyn had initially planned to just sleep in her clothes and skip the shower.

But the more she thought about it, the less appealing that sounded.
