The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 236

Julian, thinking Jocelyn was hurt by the revelation, gave her a moment of silence.

Jocelyn finally snapped out of it.

"If Audrey knew Adrian was keeping a 'confidante' on the side, she'd lose her damn mind."

All this time, Adrian hadn't even been fully devoted to the woman he tore his marriage apart for.

When did this 'confidante' even enter the picture?

Julian hesitated. "Are you..."

Jocelyn burst out laughing.

"Oh, don't read into it. I don't give a single damn about that man anymore. Even if he had a whole harem, I wouldn't shed a single tear."

Her feelings for Adrian were completely dead and buried.

So whether he had three mistresses or four, Jocelyn genuinely couldn't care less.

"I was just shocked, that's all. I thought since he bent over backwards for Audrey, she was the love of his life. I never expected him to be sneaking around with a confidante."

Julian offered his perspective. "To a man like Mr. Lowell, having a wife, a lover, and a confidante don't necessarily conflict with each other."

The comment hit the nail on the head.

Jocelyn couldn't resist teasing him.

"Does that mean Mr. Vance thinks the three don't conflict, either?"

Julian turned his head to look at her, his eyes filled with a deep, quiet tenderness.

"I want the woman I marry to be everything to me—my lover, my partner, and my best friend.""

Jocelyn's heart suddenly skipped a beat.

She cleared her throat softly and immediately looked out the window.

For some reason, she suddenly didn't dare meet his eyes.

Desperate to break the sudden tension, she quickly changed the subject.

"If she's Adrian's confidante, why do you think she helped me back there?"

Julian didn't have an answer for that either.

"I guess only she knows the real reason."

Jocelyn let it drop.

It wasn't like she was going to track the woman down just to ask her.

Adrian's irritation spiked. "You just said it yourself. He's my assistant."

Realizing he was angry, Audrey quickly changed tactics, clinging to his arm.

"Oh, come on, I didn't interrogate him! I just asked if you had any work events tonight. He said no, so I hung up."

Adrian pulled his arm out of her grasp and walked further into the house.

"A client came up last minute. I didn't run it by Todd, so obviously he didn't know."

Before Audrey could say anything else, Adrian's voice dropped, cold and sharp.

"I really don't like it when you stick your nose into my business."

Audrey froze.

She had heard that exact phrase before.

That was it.

Adrian used to say those exact words to Jocelyn.

Audrey had been right there in the room. Jocelyn had simply asked a polite question about his workday, and his face had turned to stone.

Back then, Audrey had secretly gloated while Adrian tore into Jocelyn with that same icy tone.
