The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 237

She never imagined those same freezing words would be turned on her.

The exact same icy tone.

Audrey's lip trembled, and her eyes quickly welled up with tears.

Adrian caught sight of her crying and let out a silent sigh. He wanted to just ignore it, but a small part of him felt bad.

He forced his voice to soften.

"I'm sorry. I'm just exhausted today, so I snapped."

Audrey threw her arms around him.

"Please don't be mean to me, Adrian. When you yell at me, it breaks my heart. It terrifies me... it makes me feel like you're going to leave me."

Adrian patted her back, forcing himself to be patient.

"You've just been cooped up in the house too long, it's making you paranoid. I think your recovery period is pretty much over. Why don't you get out more? Go shopping."

He gently pushed her back and pulled a card from his wallet.

He was about to hand it to her, but stopped.

It was the credit card he had given Jocelyn.

It had magically appeared back in his bedroom a few days ago.

The woman was so damn stubborn, she wouldn't even take his money.

Audrey's hand hovered awkwardly in the air.

"Adrian..."

Adrian slid the card back into his wallet.

"I just remembered this card is locked. Tell you what, whatever you want to buy, just put it on your card and I'll reimburse you."

That was enough to lift Audrey's spirits.

"Okay! Thank you, Adrian. Oh, right!"

Audrey grabbed his hand and pulled him toward their bedroom.

"Adrian, Grandma, Mom, and Claire went all out buying stuff for Leo's 'first birthday' ceremony. At his one-month celebration, we’re even going to play a little game to see what he picks, to 'predict' what our son is going to be!"

Adrian hated hearing the words 'our son'.

But he bit his tongue.

It suddenly dawned on him that every time he came back to this house, he felt completely trapped.

He felt like a caged bird whose feelings didn't matter to anyone. Every single moment spent here was pure torture.
