Julian took several deep breaths, fighting to suppress a rising urge. His voice was incredibly hoarse.
"Jocelyn, it's me. Wake up."
The woman in his arms went still for a few seconds.
Julian was just about to breathe a sigh of relief when, suddenly, his lips were captured.
Jocelyn threw her arms tightly around his neck and kissed him with desperate intensity.
There was no skill to it, just an overwhelming release of pure desire.
Julian tried to push her away, but he was terrified of hurting her. In his moment of hesitation, she bit down hard on his lower lip.
The metallic taste of blood instantly flooded his mouth.
Julian let out a muffled groan of pain but didn't loosen his hold on her.
When Jocelyn's tongue boldly pushed past his lips, his entire body went completely rigid.
Tormented by the violent aphrodisiac, she had finally found a shred of relief and utterly refused to let go.
Julian was practically sweating from the sheer effort of restraining himself.
"Jocelyn... it's me..."
Jocelyn cradled his face in her hands, her eyes completely glazed over.
"I'm burning up... Please, I can't take this anymore..."
Julian swallowed hard.
"Look at me. It's me. I'm Julian."
One of Jocelyn's hands gently brushed against his earlobe.
"I need it..."
"Please..."
"I'm dying..."
"Give it to me, please..."
The soft warmth of her body and the intoxicating scent of her perfume were a deadly temptation.
Julian's mouth went completely dry.
His physical reaction was entirely normal for any red-blooded man in this situation.
When Jocelyn's hand slipped beneath his shirt and touched his firm chest, Julian couldn't hold back any longer.
He cupped the back of her head and kissed her deeply.
...
When Jocelyn finally woke up, she was already in a hospital bed.
Her head was spinning wildly, and her entire body ached.
Spotting the man sitting by her bedside, she called out in a raspy voice.
"Julian."
Julian reached out and felt Jocelyn's forehead.
"Are you feeling any better?"
Jocelyn sobbed quietly.
"I guess this baby was just never meant to be mine."
Julian was completely at a loss for words.
A heavy silence settled over the room.
Jocelyn kept her back turned, but her emotions gradually leveled out. When she finally spoke, her voice was ice-cold.
"Was it Adrian?"
Julian shook his head. "Probably not."
"Then who was it?"
"We're not sure yet."
Another suffocating silence followed.
"Was I..."
Julian answered quickly, "No. The man didn't have time to hurt you."
"He didn't have time? You got there fast enough to save me?"
"I didn't save you. Lana did."
Jocelyn slowly turned back around to face him.
"Who?"
Lana?
