The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 248

When Julian received the text from an unknown number, he was at a bar having a drink with a friend.

This friend happened to be the lawyer handling Jocelyn's divorce case.

True to his word, Julian had shown up exactly as promised.

The text read:

Jocelyn is in danger. Come quickly.

It was followed by a hotel name and a room number.

It was signed: Lana.

Julian didn't question the authenticity of the text for a second. Without wasting a single moment, he rushed to the hotel.

He found the room and knocked heavily on the door.

The person who opened it was indeed Lana.

"Mr. Vance."

Julian nodded and stepped inside.

"Where is she?"

Lana led him further into the room.

There was a man lying unconscious on the floor near the bed.

He had been stripped down to nothing but his underwear.

Jocelyn was lying on the bed, clearly delirious. She seemed incredibly overheated and was desperately tugging at her clothes, letting out soft, uncomfortable whimpers.

Lana quickly pulled the blanket up to cover her.

"She and I must have some sort of connection. This is our third time running into each other, though this time, it seems her luck took a turn for the worse."

"I saw this man pulling her out of a car, so I followed them inside."

"Thankfully, I was just in time. I knocked him out before he could do anything."

Julian's eyes turned as hard and cold as ice.

"I owe you my thanks for saving her."

Lana offered a faint smile.

"I didn't do it just for her. I did it for Adrian. I know he would never allow something like this to happen."

Julian looked at her sharply. "So you're absolutely certain Adrian wasn't behind this?"

Lana shook her head. "I know him. No matter how flawed he is, he wouldn't resort to something like this. And if my intuition is right, Adrian still cares about her on some level."

Julian pressed further. "Then why didn't you text him? Why text me instead?"

Lana hesitated for a moment.
