"That's good," Julian replied.
The two of them turned into the small garden.
The garden was a little scenic spot within The Astoria complex. The landscaping and design were beautiful, making it a popular spot for residents to chat and take evening walks.
But tonight, likely due to the freezing weather, it was completely deserted.
Jocelyn pointed to a nearby bench.
"Let's sit for a minute."
Julian nodded. "Okay."
But almost immediately after they sat down, a strange noise drifted over from the bushes behind them.
As a married woman, it didn't take Jocelyn long to realize exactly what those sounds meant.
Her ears instantly burned hot.
Jocelyn reflexively glanced at Julian.
Julian happened to be looking at her at the exact same moment.
Making eye contact only made the situation infinitely more mortifying.
Julian looked intensely uncomfortable.
"They're... quite adventurous."
Jocelyn couldn't hold back a laugh.
"Maybe we should find another spot."
Julian cleared his throat awkwardly.
"Good idea."
They had barely taken two steps when a figure suddenly lunged out of the darkness.
Before either of them could react, something sticky splashed directly into Jocelyn's face.
It smelled exactly like cola.
The culprit was Claire Lowell.
Before they could even speak, Claire was pointing a finger right in Jocelyn's face and screaming.
"You shameless bitch! All you do all day is seduce men! Was Liam Bancroft not enough for you?! Now you're throwing yourself at Julian?!"
"You're getting dumped by my brother, so you're desperately hunting for a backup plan, aren't you?! You, Evans! Have you got no shame at all?! Why don't you take a good look in the mirror? You're just a dumped housewife! Who the hell would actually want you?!"
Jocelyn expected to feel angry.
But surprisingly, she felt completely calm.
Maybe it was because getting into a screaming match with someone as classless as Claire would only make her look pathetic.
Jocelyn just offered a faint smile.
"Why don't you take a look in the mirror yourself? With an attitude like that, I'd love to see who would dare take you."
"You!"
Claire raised her hand to strike.
But in the next second, her face twisted in pure agony.
Julian's hand clamped down around her thin wrist like a steel vise.
"It hurts..."
Julian let go just in time.
Any longer, and he probably would have snapped her wrist in half.
