Stepping back into The Evans Group headquarters filled Jocelyn with a profound sense of sorrow.
Her father was nowhere to be seen in the spacious corner office.
Instead, Adrian Lowell was sitting in the exact chair Marcus Evans used to occupy.
Adrian looked awful—pale, haggard, and utterly exhausted.
For a split second, Jocelyn actually felt sorry for the man.
Trapped in the Lowell family, surrounded, pressured, and brainwashed by a pack of domineering, ignorant women. Constantly doing things that went against his own conscience, never knowing what true happiness was. In a way, it was a tragedy.
Liam Bancroft was dressed impeccably today.
It reminded Jocelyn of their college days when they had started their first business together.
Whenever it was time to negotiate a deal, Liam transformed into a completely different person—sharp, professional, and without an ounce of his usual laid-back attitude.
Seeing the two of them walk in side-by-side sent a fresh spike of jealousy straight through Adrian's chest.
But he knew perfectly well that he had to go through with this divorce. He couldn't delay it any longer.
If he did, Eleanor would skin him alive.
He also couldn't afford to let his reputation tank, or it would impact the company's bottom line.
Especially with his biggest rival, Vanguard Tech, likely waiting in the wings to capitalize on the chaos.
Adrian tossed the transfer agreement onto the desk, his words laced with bitterness.
"I guess this is a double victory for you. Got exactly what you wanted? You happy now?"
Jocelyn kept her expression neutral. She didn't smile, and she didn't rise to the bait.
She knew Adrian was in a foul mood, and she had no interest in starting unnecessary drama.
Getting these papers signed smoothly was her only priority today.
So, she replied calmly.
"I still have to thank you for making this happen, Mr. Lowell."
Just as Jocelyn reached for the contract, Adrian suddenly stood up and snatched it away.
"Once this is over, I expect you to keep your mouth shut. Don't ever try to blackmail me with any of this again!"
Jocelyn gave a faint smile.
"Like I said before, I hated stooping to that level in the first place. I just didn't have a choice. But now that the dust has settled, I have exactly what I want."
"So you can relax, Mr. Lowell. From now on, whatever happens to the Lowell family has absolutely nothing to do with me. Moving forward, the only business I care about is my own."
*Smack.*
