The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 271

Jocelyn barely lifted her eyes.

"So, you can get out now."

"You!"

Audrey was on the verge of losing it. Luckily, she managed to keep a shred of sanity, slowly calming herself down before letting out a soft laugh.

"I have to say, I didn't expect you to end up with The Evans Group after leaving Adrian. Your luck really isn't bad."

A mocking smile tugged at the corner of Jocelyn's lips.

"Well, I should properly thank you for that, Miss Preston. If my former sister-in-law hadn't been sneaking around with my ex-husband, I wouldn't have learned to tell the difference between humans and animals so quickly."

Audrey forced a stiff smile.

"What's done is done. What's the point of throwing insults? You're the chairman of a major group now. Don't you care about your image?"

"You make a fair point, Miss Preston. Why should I waste my breath arguing with the mistress? It really is beneath me."

Audrey bit her tongue, swallowing her rage as she clamped her mouth shut.

Saying anything more would only give this woman a chance to push further.

Jocelyn looked her up and down.

She hadn't changed—dressed provocatively, makeup utterly flawless.

She was definitely the kind of beauty that drew men in.

It was just a shame her heart was so twisted.

Of course, she had her father's careful guidance to thank for that twisted moral compass.

"Since we're saying our goodbyes, let me give you a piece of advice."

Audrey scoffed.

"Why would I need any advice from you?"

Jocelyn gave her a half-smile.

"It might actually save you down the road."

"Just spit it out," Audrey snapped impatiently. "Stop acting like some kind of saint."

Jocelyn rested her elbows on the table, propping her chin on her hands as she blinked her bright, clear eyes.

"Keep a very close eye on Adrian. Be careful you don't end up becoming the next me."

Audrey didn't care in the slightest.

"Oh, please. We are completely different. From the very beginning, Adrian never loved you. But with me, he's always been consistent. I know he won't change his mind. We're going to be incredibly happy for the rest of our lives."

As she spoke, she purposely flashed the diamond bracelet on her wrist.
