The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 276

Jocelyn returned home.

Maria was already bustling around the kitchen.

The counters were completely covered with a mountain of ingredients.

Clearly, Maria was getting ready to show off her culinary skills.

Jocelyn took off her coat, walked into the kitchen, and checked the time.

"Maria, it's way too early for dinner. Why are you starting now?"

Maria didn't stop chopping for a second.

"With this many dishes, it's going to take a while! If I pace myself, everything should be perfectly timed for dinner."

Jocelyn laughed.

"I thought we were just doing a casual, home-cooked meal. You're making so much, we won't even be able to finish it."

"Miss Jocelyn, this is where you don't understand how these things work," Maria scolded affectionately. "This is Mr. Vance's first time eating at our house. We can't just throw together a few simple dishes. People would laugh at us!"

"If we're going to cook, we're going to put out a proper feast. We have to make sure Mr. Vance eats well and leaves full."

"Just look at him—he's lost weight lately. It's probably because he hasn't been eating properly, which means I need to cook even more."

Jocelyn actually paused to think about it.

Had he lost weight?

She hadn't noticed at all.

Well, if Maria said he had lost weight, then he had lost weight.

So, Jocelyn tied on an apron, rolled up her sleeves, and got to work herself.

She had promised to personally bake Julian some Herbal Pastries to help his digestion.

By roughly six o'clock, an entire banquet was laid out on the table.

Maria was incredibly proud of her work and happily waited for Julian to arrive.

But by seven o'clock, the man who had promised to be there strictly on time was nowhere to be seen.

Maria wasn't angry, just genuinely worried.

"Miss Jocelyn, hurry and give Mr. Vance a call. Make sure nothing bad happened to him!"

Jocelyn was just pulling out her phone when Julian called her first.

"There was a massive pile-up on the South Road Viaduct. Traffic is at a complete standstill. I won't be able to make it anytime soon. Please tell Maria how sorry I am."

"Maria was so worried she was just telling me to call you when you rang," Jocelyn replied. "It's fine, take your time and drive safe. There's no rush. We'll wait for you."

"Don't wait up. You guys eat first. I don't want you going hungry."

"What kind of hosts eat before the guest arrives? It's really fine, I'm not hungry."

"Even if you're not hungry, the baby is. Listen to me. Eat first. Just save a little something for me."

An hour later.

The traffic finally cleared up.

He sped all the way back, but by the time he pulled into The Astoria, he was three hours late.
