The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 309

Eleanor had a creeping suspicion he was just making up an excuse to leave.

She was fully prepared to scold him again.

But then she reconsidered.

The divorce was finally finalized. She didn't want to suffocate him and ruin their relationship completely.

"Fine, go handle your business. I'll just celebrate with your mother and Audrey. Before you go, make sure you take the gift for Commissioner Davis."

Adrian walked out to his car.

Todd's call came in immediately.

Adrian was desperate for answers.

"What did you find out?"

"Still nothing. There's absolutely no way to prove that your wife... I mean, Miss Evans, is actually 'Storm.'"

Adrian was on the verge of losing his mind.

That damn woman just dropped a bombshell on him and casually walked away!

Was she just spouting nonsense to mess with him, or was she telling the truth?

If it was a lie, how could someone who rarely left the house even know a name like 'Storm' existed?

A million unanswered questions ricocheted around inside his head, driving him absolutely insane.

Drowning his sorrows in alcohol was the only way to numb the chaos.

Lana sat next to him on the sofa, gently trying to stop him as he downed glass after glass.

"You've had more than enough to drink."

Adrian's expression remained dark and stormy.

"Are you trying to control me too?"

"I'm not trying to control you. I'm just looking out for you," Lana replied softly. "Drinking this much is terrible for your health."

His grip on the glass tightened until his knuckles turned white.

"I'm divorced."

"I know."

"It feels completely surreal."

"Surreal?"

He slammed his empty glass onto the table and kicked his legs up, sinking heavily into the plush cushions.

The emotions warring on his face were impossibly complicated; the deep furrow between his brows never once smoothed out.

"It still feels like we're together. Like she's still my wife."

"But the reality is, you're not," Lana pointed out gently.

A flicker of genuine grief crossed his eyes.
