The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 315

"Honey, get the door," Quentin said.

The door swung open.

It was indeed Adrian Lowell.

Quentin stepped forward to greet him.

"I told Mrs. Lowell not to go through the trouble, yet you came all this way yourself, Mr. Lowell. I feel terrible about the inconvenience."

Adrian, dressed in a sleek black wool overcoat, stood tall and dashing.

However, the smile on his face seemed a bit strained.

"Not at all, Commissioner. My grandmother just really wanted to share this excellent tea with you. Good things are meant to be shared, after all."

"Come in, have a seat."

Adrian stepped into the living room.

When he saw a painfully familiar figure standing elegantly in the room, he thought his eyes were playing tricks on him.

"What are you doing here?" he blurted out.

Jocelyn didn't answer.

She already knew exactly what kind of 'gift' her godfather was giving her.

Just as expected, Quentin answered for her.

"I invited Jo over for dinner."

Adrian froze.

Jo?

Dinner?

Since when was this woman on such intimate terms with the Commissioner?

"Oh, I forgot to mention," Quentin added casually. "Jo is now our goddaughter. She's officially family."

Adrian's head spun.

Goddaughter?

What on earth was going on?

He assumed that after the divorce, this woman would be miserable and struggling to get by.

So why did she look so radiant, so confident, and entirely in her element?

What kind of manipulation had she used to get a man as unbribable and strict as Commissioner Davis to adopt her as a goddaughter?
