"Talk about bad luck. I can't even go shopping without running into you."

"What do you want?"

Not daring to fire back, she simply hurried away.

Sarah leaned close to Liam.

"That J is for Jocelyn's name?"

"Yeah. Julian engraved it himself."

"Then why didn't you just take it back?"

"And do what? Mug her in broad daylight? I'd get arrested for armed robbery right there on the street."

Sarah scowled, dissatisfied.

"But it belongs to Jo. Seeing it around that brat's neck is an insult to the necklace."

And an insult to Julian's devotion.

The gears in Liam's head began to turn.

"Julian's gift is definitely not going to serve as a freebie for the Lowells."

"You have a plan?" Sarah asked.

A wicked smirk danced across Liam's face.

"If we can't steal it in the open, we'll steal it in the shadows."

The two huddled together, whispering furiously.

Jocelyn walked over, highly amused.

"Do you two have some grand conspiracy going on that I'm not allowed to hear?"

Liam didn't miss a beat.

"I just remembered I have an urgent meeting. I've got to run, so I won't be able to chaperone you ladies anymore."

With that, he shoved all the shopping bags into Sarah's arms.

"Hold these."

Sarah accepted them with suspicious glee.
