Claire brushed off the question with a wave of her hand.

"It was just some cheap, ordinary necklace. Not worth anything. I only wore it because it matched my outfit."

Eleanor was genuinely perplexed.

"Your rings, your bracelets, your designer bag—they're all worth a fortune. Yet they ignored all of that to snatch some worthless necklace? Was this thief out of his mind?"

Right on cue, Adrian walked through the door.

"What thief?"

Eleanor quickly relayed the story.

Adrian found the whole thing equally bizarre.

Claire's mind suddenly flashed to Liam.

"I know who it was! It had to be her!"

"Her who? What are you talking about?" Adrian asked.

"Who else?" Claire sneered angrily. "That wretched ex-wife of yours!"

Adrian froze slightly at the mention of Jocelyn.

"You saw her?"

"Yeah. Ran into her at the mall. She was out shopping with that Liam Bancroft."

Claire aggressively poured fuel on the fire.

"That Bancroft guy was buying her bags left and right. They were practically glued to each other, acting like they were deeply in love."

Adrian's brow drew into a dark, heavy scowl.

"Hah," Eleanor scoffed venomously. "That woman certainly knows how to play her cards. Barely divorced and she's already latched onto a new target. All those years playing the dutiful wife in our house... what an incredible act."

Adrian couldn't stomach the biting criticism and abruptly changed the subject.

"What does your mugging have to do with her? You have zero proof. Stop making baseless accusations."

"How doesn't it have anything to do with her? I know it does! She probably couldn't stand the sight of me and paid someone to rob me just to scare me!"

"But she was too cowardly to steal anything expensive in case the police got involved, so she went for the cheapest thing on me!"
