Audrey had taken the baby back to her family's estate for the day.
When Adrian arrived at the Preston residence, the staff eagerly rushed to inform Caleb Preston.
They were already treating Adrian like their official son-in-law.
Caleb and Audrey had been deep in conversation, but the chatter ceased the moment Adrian stepped into the parlor.
Audrey practically jogged over to him.
"Adrian, you're here!"
Adrian gave a stiff nod. "Yeah."
Caleb noted Adrian's lack of enthusiasm. Annoyance sparked in the older man's chest, but he kept his expression perfectly affable.
"Adrian, perfect timing. Audrey and I were just talking about you."
Adrian forced his features into a neutral expression.
"Mr. Preston."
Caleb chuckled warmly. "You won't be calling me that for much longer. It'll be 'Dad' soon enough."
"I've already spoken with your grandmother. We've decided to skip the engagement party and head straight into planning the wedding."
Adrian froze, caught completely off guard.
"Mr. Preston, isn't that a little rushed? Shouldn't we take our time?"
He had a hundred reasons why he dreaded this marriage.
But he was absolutely trapped.
"I wouldn't mind slowing things down," Caleb smiled indulgently, "but my precious daughter here has been dreaming of marrying you her entire life."
Audrey flushed, playfully swatting her father's arm. "Dad! Stop it, I didn't say that..."
Caleb roared with laughter. "Oh, now you're shy? Who was just pacing the room, terrified that her beloved Adrian was going to get cold feet?"
He then leveled a sharp, assessing look at Adrian.
"Adrian, I want the absolute truth from you today. Do you genuinely want to marry my daughter?"
Adrian forced the corners of his mouth upward.
"I do. Sincerely."
