That evening, Vanguard Tech's departmental dinner was held at The Sovereign Club.
Knowing Julian personally, the owner had reserved their largest VIP suite and generously comped two bottles of wine for the table.
Romanee-Conti.
Worth roughly thirty-five thousand dollars a bottle.
Complete with two opulent, imported fruit platters.
It was an extravagant, jaw-dropping display of hospitality.
Sarah nudged Julian.
"Mr. Vance, your friend isn't playing around. He just casually dropped tens of thousands of dollars on us like it was nothing."
Julian chuckled softly. "He's always been generous."
Liam clicked his tongue in mock outrage.
"Funny, I've never seen this alleged generosity. The last time I brought friends here, I didn't even get a free bowl of peanuts, let alone a seventy-thousand-dollar wine tab!"
Julian arched a perfect brow, a knowing smirk on his lips.
"You know exactly why he didn't send you anything."
Liam promptly shut his mouth, choosing self-preservation.
But Sarah was not about to let it slide.
"Why? What did he do? Tell us!"
Liam glared at her. "Tell you what? Why are you so damn nosy? Curiosity killed the cat, you know!"
Sarah grinned unapologetically.
"Good thing I'm not a cat. Spit it out, come on."
After being relentlessly hounded, Liam finally caved, muttering under his breath with a grimace.
"One time he got blackout drunk, and I played a little prank on him..."
"What prank? Don't leave us hanging!"
"I hired a stunning model to slip into bed next to him. I just wanted to see his face when he woke up."
Sarah's eyes sparkled with sheer entertainment.
"And? What happened?"
Even Jocelyn couldn't resist leaning in slightly to catch the rest of the story.
Human nature made good gossip utterly irresistible.
Catching her subtle, eager expression, Julian couldn't help but smile, finding her genuine curiosity incredibly endearing.
But Liam flat-out refused to elaborate.
Being cut off halfway through a juicy story was pure torture.
Mercifully, Julian picked up the slack.
"The result was that the woman decided to take advantage of the situation and make a real move on him. Fortunately, Sean wasn't quite drunk enough to lose his mind, and he threw her out before anything happened."
"Sean has held a grudge against Liam ever since."
