The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 338

The dinner wrapped up, and everyone filtered out of the private room.

Liam was carrying Sarah on his back. She was completely blacked out.

"I should just dump this girl on the curb. Why am I even bothering?" Liam grumbled, though he immediately adjusted his grip to make sure she didn't slip.

Julian glanced at Jocelyn walking ahead of them, then lowered his voice. "Happy?"

Liam grinned, knowing exactly what he meant. "I just got a free sports car. Who wouldn't be?"

Julian didn't actually care about the car, so he wasn't mad. He just found the whole thing amusing. "Blackmailing me with my own property. Only you would pull something like that."

"Well, then I guess I should tell you how I actually got this necklace. I'm sure you've been dying to ask."

Liam quickly recounted how he noticed Claire wearing it. Claire getting robbed in the alley was, naturally, orchestrated by Liam's people.

Julian was quiet for a few seconds. "Thanks."

Liam shot him a sideways glare. "Don't say that to me. It makes it sound like you're throwing our friendship away over a girl."

"I'm not thanking you for getting the necklace back."

He was thanking him for everything else.

Liam let out a dry laugh. "You know there's no happy ending here. Why keep doing this to yourself? You're just asking for pain."

A trace of sorrow flashed through Julian's eyes. "You're right."

Liam paused. "I wasn't talking about you. I was talking about myself. As for you... you should probably hold out a little longer."

Julian looked at the graceful silhouette walking ahead of them. "Being friends is fine."

At least she was still in his life. He was already satisfied with that.

The next morning.

Sarah woke up with a splitting headache.

She dragged her heavy eyelids open, squinting at the unfamiliar room. It clearly wasn't her bedroom.

Panic hit her like a bucket of ice water. She bolted upright.

Looking over, she realized there was someone else under the covers. The blanket was pulled over their head, obscuring their face.

Sarah took a deep breath and yanked the covers back.

Liam lay there, fast asleep and completely shirtless.

Gritting her teeth, Sarah ripped the blanket off herself.

She was down to just her bra and panties.

She gasped, her hand flying out to smack the sleeping man hard across the chest.

Liam hated being woken up. He jolted awake, instantly furious. "What the hell! Are you trying to get yourself killed?"

But the moment he saw her glaring at him, his anger vanished, replaced by a lazy smirk. "Babe, you're awake?"

Sarah forced the words through her teeth. "Where am I?"

Liam yawned. "My place. First time here, right? I'll give you the grand tour later."

Tour my ass!
