"My ex-wife and I were having a private conversation. Don't you have anything better to do, Liam?"
Why did this guy always have to show up?
Liam tilted his chin toward the end of the hall.
"Isn't your actual partner over there?"
Adrian turned around to see Audrey standing a few yards away, looking like a wounded puppy.
In reality, Audrey was seething with rage.
She had barely restrained herself from storming over and shoving them apart.
Sighing internally, Adrian walked over to her.
"I told you to wait. Why did you come up here?"
Audrey opened her mouth, swallowing back her fury.
Her father had been right. She had done much worse things in the past. She had no right to play the victim now.
As long as she married Adrian and secured her position as the new Mrs. Lowell, she could turn a blind eye to his wandering attention.
Convincing herself of this, she plastered on a sweet smile.
"You were taking a while, so I came up to check on you. Plus, I wanted to say hi to Jocelyn. We used to be family, after all."
"But I think I interrupted you two. You're not mad, are you, Adrian?"
It was a perfectly reasonable and accommodating excuse.
Even if he wanted to be angry, he couldn't find a reason.
With Liam hovering around, continuing his conversation with Jocelyn was impossible. He had no choice but to leave.
"We're done talking. Let's go."
Audrey looped her arm affectionately through his.
"Okay, let's head home. We need our rest. Tomorrow is our dress fitting for the wedding."
It was a calculated remark meant for an audience.
Fortunately, Jocelyn couldn't have cared less.
Once the couple was out of earshot, Liam picked up her hand and inspected her wrist.
The skin was turning red.
He whipped out his phone. "I need to take a picture of this and send it to Julian."
Jocelyn quickly snatched her hand behind her back.
"Knock it off. He's been exhausted from the tech expo all day. Just let him rest."
