Jocelyn felt a deep sense of revulsion at the sight of Caleb Preston. She hadn't forgotten the slap he had given her. She kept her emotions hidden.
When Caleb pushed a cup of green tea toward her, she barely glanced at it. "I only drink water."
Caleb didn't get angry. He pressed the service bell. A server quickly entered. "Bring this lady a glass of warm water," Caleb ordered.
The server left. Caleb took a sip of his tea. "I almost forgot. You're pregnant."
Jocelyn offered a faint smile. "How could you forget? Isn't that the whole reason you asked me here today?"
She wasn't entirely sure, but putting the pieces together, Caleb was the most likely person to have checked her hospital records. Audrey had probably discovered her at the maternity ward and immediately ran to her father to clear the obstacle.
Caleb's tone was lukewarm. Even though he deliberately softened his voice, it was still deeply unpleasant. "I have to admit, you're quite smart."
The server returned with the water and a small plate of mixed nuts. Jocelyn held the glass but didn't drink. "Let's get straight to the point. There's no need to beat around the bush."
Caleb's gaze grew cold. He had to admit, this woman had guts coming here alone. From the moment she walked in, her attitude had been calm and detached. Most people were terrified of him.
Caleb cut to the chase. "I want you to get rid of the child."
"Afraid of what?" Jocelyn cut him off mercilessly. "Afraid I won't make it out of here alive? Or afraid that crossing you means I'll never have a good day again? You're far too arrogant, and you underestimate me. If I walked in here, I can walk out. You don't get to control my life or my baby's."
"Jocelyn!" Caleb barely kept his fury in check, but after weighing his options, he swallowed his anger. "Name a price. How much do you want?"
Jocelyn laughed softly. "You and Eleanor Lowell really are two peas in a pod. It's no wonder your families are uniting."
Even their tones were identical. So overbearing, so full of themselves. They truly believed money could solve everything.
