The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 382

They believed money could even buy lives.

"You're a smart woman," Caleb said. "Be realistic. With enough money, you can live comfortably."

Jocelyn offered a half-smile. "I can't stomach your money. I'd be afraid of getting my hands dirty. Who knows where that cash came from? It's probably stained with innocent blood."

Caleb slammed his hand on the table. "Don't be ungrateful."

He looked genuinely menacing.

Jocelyn remained entirely unfazed. It seemed Caleb's intimidation tactics were limited, and he angered far too easily.

"Listen to me, Caleb." Her gaze turned icy. "You'd better not target my baby. If anything happens to this child, I swear I will hunt you down until one of us is dead."

"The best approach for both of us is to stay out of each other's way. You don't have to worry about me using this baby to string Adrian along. The name Adrian Lowell means absolutely nothing to me anymore."

Caleb's chilling stare fixed on her face. "Why should I believe you? How can you prove you're telling the truth?"

"Whether you believe me or not is your problem. I don't need to prove anything."

The water in her glass had grown cold. She pushed it aside. "Are you really just worried about your daughter's marriage being threatened by my baby, or..."

"Or are you afraid this child will compete with you for the Lowell family's assets down the line?"

Caleb's expression twisted for a fraction of a second. "Don't get too clever."

Jocelyn smiled faintly. "You know exactly how clever I am."

A sinister look crossed Caleb's face. "Sometimes, being too smart isn't a good thing."

Jocelyn shook her head. "I disagree. I think it's always better to be smart. Otherwise, you wouldn't even know how you died."
