The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 384

He was consumed by hatred.

He wanted to tear this woman apart piece by piece.

How dare she threaten him!

But the evidence was real.

If it fell into the hands of the police, even his extensive connections wouldn't save him.

Furthermore, Jocelyn was now under the protection of Commissioner Quentin Davis.

And it seemed she had other powerful forces backing her as well.

Caleb's resolve crumbled.

He couldn't risk it.

"Miss Evans," Caleb suddenly laughed, his demeanor shifting to forced friendliness. "I only invited you here today to catch up. Nothing more. And about that slap from before, I've been kicking myself over it. I wanted to take this opportunity to properly apologize to you."

He was a true chameleon, willing to bow when outmatched.

Jocelyn's smile dripped with sarcasm. "You really are a man of great flexibility, Mr. Preston."

The mockery stung.

It was the first time Caleb had ever been humiliated like this, pinned under the heel of a woman.

It was agonizing!

But he had no choice but to swallow his pride.

"So," Jocelyn continued, "since you love making deals, let's make one right now. How does that sound?"

Caleb forced a strained smile. "Please go ahead, Miss Evans."

Jocelyn paused for a moment, her dark eyes flashing. "I can pretend I never saw this evidence. I'll never bring it up again. And as for my pregnancy, I guarantee Adrian will never find out about it for the rest of his life."

"In return, you give me the evidence proving Claire hit my mother."

For Caleb, it was an incredibly favorable trade.

But he was hesitant to take the gamble. "Why should I trust you?"
