The corners of her lips curled up, but her eyes remained as dead and still as stagnant water.
"Give you time? So you can find a new way to destroy me?"
"No, I—"
"Adrian." Her sharp tone cut him off instantly. "Some things are better left unsaid. When something is gone, it's gone. It doesn't magically come back just because you suddenly decided you want it, or because you feel a little remorse."
"Besides, what could I possibly have done to deserve such a powerful, top-tier man humbling himself for me?"
"So do yourself a favor and keep some of your dignity. Don't say things you shouldn't, and definitely don't entertain ideas that have no future."
Her expression was cold and resolute.
"The one thing you can't buy in this world is a cure for regret. So..."
"Even if you are sorry, please keep it to yourself. Because I have absolutely no desire to hear it."
Her words effectively silenced him.
The faint glimmer of hope in his eyes slowly faded into pure despair.
His jaw clenched tight, and the aura around him grew so freezing it was suffocating.
"Adrian, from now on, let's keep our interactions to an absolute minimum."
With that, she turned on her heel and walked away.
After a few steps, she paused.
Without looking back, she let out a quiet sigh.
"Adrian, you really need to learn how to read people better. Otherwise, one day someone will sell you out, and you'll still be helping them count the cash."
He snapped out of his misery, frowning.
"What does that mean?"
She didn't elaborate, simply walking away without a backward glance.
He could figure it out himself.
If she still harbored even a shred of affection for him, she might have warned him about Caleb Preston's true nature today.
Unfortunately, there was absolutely nothing left.
