The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 428

Sarah fired back without hesitation.

"Who's trying to run! I told you I have things to do! I'm busy, okay? That's why I haven't had time to text you back!"

"Bullshit!" Liam pinched her cheek. "Oh! I get it."

Sarah winced and punched him in the arm.

"Get what!"

"Are you still hung up on what happened last time?"

A sudden wave of guilt washed over Sarah.

"What... what last time?"

Liam dropped a bomb.

"You're pissed because we ended up in the same bed, but I didn't try anything, and now you're feeling insecure about your sex appeal."

Cough! Cough! Cough!

Jocelyn choked violently.

Maria rushed over in a panic.

"Miss Jocelyn, are you alright?"

Jocelyn coughed until tears streamed down her face, simultaneously fighting the urge to burst out laughing.

"I'm fine, I'm fine. Just swallowed wrong."

Maria breathed a sigh of relief and walked away.

Jocelyn wiped her eyes.

"When did this happen? After that game of Truth or Dare?"

Liam shrugged.

"Exactly."

Jocelyn's jaw dropped.

"You guys..."

Liam: "This psycho got black-out drunk, so I took her back to my place. We slept in the same bed, but I'm not the type to cross boundaries with friends, so now her ego is bruised..."

Smack!

Sarah's hand collided squarely with Liam's neck.

She had aimed for his face.

But restrained herself at the last second.

Even though it was just his neck, Liam still stood there in stunned silence.

Sarah snatched her bag and bolted.

Liam rubbed his neck.

"Is she a lunatic?"

Jocelyn shook her head.

"You wounded her pride."

Liam: "Pride?"

Jocelyn: "Yeah. Airing something that intimate in front of a third party is obviously going to make a girl uncomfortable."

Liam flopped down onto the couch.

With that, he stormed out.

Maria, who had overheard the exchange, remarked.

"Miss Jocelyn, Liam seems to really hate talking about his family."

Jocelyn lazily shifted her position.

"Everyone has burdens they can't bring themselves to share."

Everyone harbored secrets they preferred to keep hidden.

Maria: "Miss Jocelyn, I made some chicken soup today. Should we call Mr. Vance and see if he wants to come over for dinner?"

Jocelyn absentmindedly stroked her still-flat stomach.

"No need."

Firstly, she didn't want him commuting back and forth.

Secondly...

Her phone rang.

It was Professor Thorne.

"Jocelyn, didn't you want to ask Dr. Alistair Finch about your mystery benefactor? I managed to track down his number for you."

Jocelyn was about to say: No need, I already know who it is.

But she quickly changed her mind.

"Thank you, Professor. Please send me the number."

There were still some questions she needed to ask Dr. Finch.
