Adrian lifted his gaze, his eyes turning terrifyingly cold.
"Pack your things and get out."
Laura shuddered violently.
"Mr. Lowell, I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to. I promise I'll be more careful next time!"
Adrian stared at her with absolute apathy.
"I despise people who abuse their borrowed power."
Laura asked, her voice trembling,
"Sir, I... I don't understand what you mean."
Adrian glared at her.
"When my wife was here, you went out of your way to make her life a living hell, didn't you?"
Laura was too terrified to speak.
It was true. She had bullied the woman mercilessly.
But...
"Mr. Lowell, that was only because the elder Mrs. Lowell told me she wasn't fit to be your wife. She said Jocelyn would be kicked out of the family sooner or later and that I shouldn't treat her with respect, so I just..."
Laura didn't dare finish her sentence.
It was strange.
That woman was already gone.
Yet the eldest young master of the Lowell family seemed utterly obsessed with her memory.
Adrian's brow furrowed tightly.
That woman...
That was exactly what Eleanor used to call Jocelyn.
Like master, like servant.
"Get out. If I see your face again, you'll regret it."
Realizing pleading was useless, Laura untied her apron and threw it onto the floor.
"Fine, I'll leave! I didn't want to stay in this cursed house anyway! Everyone here is either dead or in jail. It's a house of horrors!"
Michelle exploded the moment she heard that.
"Laura! Watch your mouth! We only took you in because you're a distant relative. Don't be so ungrateful!"
Since she was getting fired anyway, Laura decided she had nothing to lose.
