Caleb clasped his hands together, displaying, for the first time, a father's genuine guilt and love.
"Marry Audrey."
Adrian's lips curled into a faint smile.
It was a smile dripping with cold detachment.
Caleb could read the indifference perfectly.
But he was a dying man with no cards left to play. He could only wager the last of the Preston fortune.
It was the absolute last thing he could do for his daughter.
"The Preston Corporation is gone, but the network and the foundation are still there. With your capabilities, you could easily rebrand and rebuild. It wouldn't take long for you to completely monopolize the logistics market."
"Once you integrate the new tech Nexus developed into logistics, it would be an unstoppable alliance. You'd control half of this city's economy."
"Adrian, don't tell me you aren't tempted."
Of course Adrian was tempted.
However, from the very beginning, he never actually planned on making Audrey his wife.
Before, Eleanor had forced his hand, and he'd had no choice but to play along.
But now...
"I'll think about it."
If marrying Audrey brought him an empire, it was certainly worth considering.
Caleb seemed to exhale a breath of relief.
"Give me an answer soon. As you know, my time is running out."
"I know."
Adrian paused for a moment.
"Do you know who did this to you?"
Caleb frowned. "The one who took me down?"
Adrian nodded. "Yes."
A deep hatred flashed across Caleb's face.
"I don't know. But they're powerful. An ordinary person could never dig up that kind of evidence."
Adrian refused to let it go.
"Who is your prime suspect?"
Caleb thought deeply.
"Julian Vance."
Adrian blinked, momentarily stunned.
"Considering the role I played in helping you secure the Lowell family assets, please... show Audrey mercy if she ever makes a mistake."
Adrian offered a noncommittal grunt and walked out.
Not long after he left the facility.
His phone rang. It was Michelle.
"Adrian, you need to get home right now! Little Leo won't stop crying, and we don't know what's wrong!"
Adrian actually cared deeply for Leo.
However, his mother's habit of screaming in panic at the slightest inconvenience—just like she used to do around Eleanor—annoyed him to no end.
"Take him to the hospital then! Do I look like a doctor to you?"
Michelle finally snapped to her senses.
"Right, okay! Audrey and I will take him to the ER right now. Hurry up and meet us there!"
Adrian rushed to the hospital.
The doctors had already finished their examinations.
All the results came back normal.
The diagnosis was that the baby had simply been startled.
