The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 436

Just to be safe, the doctor recommended keeping the baby overnight for observation.

Michelle pulled Adrian aside, fidgeting nervously.

"Adrian, I'm telling you, we need to move immediately. I read that babies can see things we can't. Little Leo must have seen something unholy in that house."

Adrian despised superstitious nonsense and instantly lost his temper.

"Can you stop acting like a lunatic for one day? Haven't you given me enough of a headache?"

Michelle insisted, "Don't brush it off! These things are real."

Adrian snapped, "Fine. Then why don't you move back to your old place?"

That would save him from listening to her complain every day.

Michelle panicked.

"But that's where that old... where she used to live! I'm not going back there. I'm moving into the South Hills property with you."

Adrian rolled his eyes and went to handle the admission paperwork.

On his way back, he passed the pharmacy counter and stopped dead in his tracks.

He thought his eyes were playing tricks on him until he stepped closer.

When the slender figure turned around and their eyes met, Adrian finally believed it.

"What are you doing here? Are you sick?"

Jocelyn suppressed the urge to roll her eyes.

Talk about rotten luck.

Without even a greeting, Adrian snatched the prescription slip right out of her hand.

He glanced at the name.

Penelope Sterling.

The name rang a bell. It took him a few seconds to place it.

"Commissioner Davis's wife?"

Jocelyn snatched the paper back.

"Yes."

"Is she ill?"

"Just a bad cold and fever."

Jocelyn wasn't lying.

Penelope had been burning up, practically delirious from the fever.

Quentin was tied up in a high-level meeting and couldn't leave.

Left with no choice, Penelope had called Jocelyn.
