The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 470

"I am very aware of my status and my boundaries. Julian and I will never end up together. Since there is no future, why start anything at all?"

"I refuse to let myself get dragged into any romantic entanglement with him. As for you, do whatever you want. I won't interfere, I won't stop you, and I certainly won't preach at you."

Life was too short. If you wanted something, you should go for it. It was far better than doing nothing and living with regret.

"But I don't want you projecting your assumptions onto me ever again. Just because you believe something, doesn't mean I feel the same way."

Jocelyn took a moment to steady herself before slowly standing up.

She felt slightly dizzy.

"Now that I know all of this, I still won't leave the company. I care about everyone there, and I love the work environment. I need a place like that, a platform where I can achieve my dreams."

"The most profound lesson I learned after divorcing Adrian is that I will never let my emotions override my logic again."

Jocelyn smoothed out the wrinkles in her shirt.

If she didn't leave right now, she was terrified she would actually break down and cry.

"Think about what I said. I'm going to head out now."

Sarah gripped the edge of the sofa, her throat burning.

"Jo!" She shot up from her seat. "I'm sorry."

Jocelyn paused, her back turned to Sarah, her voice dropping low. "It's fine."

She took a few steps toward the door before Sarah called out to her again.

"Now that you know I like Julian, are you going to..."

Jocelyn let out a quiet, humorless chuckle.

"Look at you, doing it again. You don't trust Liam, and you don't trust me either."

Her barely audible sigh carried an immense weight of disappointment.

"Handle your own affairs. Neither of us will meddle, and we certainly aren't petty enough to want to watch you make a fool of yourself by running to Julian."

There were no curses. No screaming or scolding.

But Sarah felt as though she had just been slapped viciously across the face.

"Sarah." Jocelyn finally turned around, her gaze locking onto her friend.

"The other day, I asked Julian a question. I asked him if even the strongest friendships eventually fade with time."

"He told me that true friendship never does."
