The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 50

The doctor, frustrated, urged her, "Just tell her. What's the point of hiding it now? Do as Mrs. Lowell says. She has a good heart and will be considerate."

Only then did the nurse speak. "It was Mr. Vance's."

Jocelyn froze for a few seconds.

Mr. Vance? It couldn't be...

"Vance?"

"Julian Vance. The head of Vanguard Tech."

Jocelyn didn't know how to describe the complex emotions swirling inside her.

She pondered for a long while, her thoughts slowly coming back into focus.

"I want this matter to stay between the three of us. No fourth person is to know."

The nurse nodded repeatedly. "Don't worry, I know what will happen to me if this gets out. I won't tell anyone. It's just..."

The nurse thought for a moment. "Do we need to tell Mr. Vance?"

"No."

"Okay."

Jocelyn turned to the doctor next to her. "So, does this mean Adrian's sperm isn't viable enough to cause a pregnancy?"

"Without treatment, it would indeed be very difficult for him to conceive."

Jocelyn suddenly started to laugh.

A laugh of unclear meaning.

"Mrs. Lowell, don't worry," the doctor said. "I'll take care of this baby for you today. I'll..."

"No need."

The doctor was surprised. "You're not going through with it?"

Leaving the hospital, Jocelyn looked up at the sky.

Not a cloud in sight, no wind, and the sun was just right.

It was a beautiful day.

Jocelyn sought refuge in a quiet café, sitting in silence as the weight of the revelation settled over her. This twist of fate was a godsend—a reprieve arriving at the eleventh hour.

Otherwise, by now, the baby inside her would have been gone.

Truthfully, she was reluctant to let it go.

Even if it was Adrian's child, it still had her blood flowing through its veins.

"I think so too."

Sarah came to her senses. "But, I think it's a good thing. As long as this baby isn't Adrian's, it's not so repulsive."

Jocelyn smiled faintly. "Indeed."

"So, are you still going through with the procedure?"

Jocelyn had already made up her mind about this question.

"I'm planning to keep this child."

"That's wonderful! I can still be the godmother."

Jocelyn caressed her belly, her thoughts drifting for a moment.

Sarah teased, "Now that you know who the biological father is, are you excited?"

Jocelyn was confused. "Excited about what?"

"Excited to see what this child will be like, of course. Oh, right, you still haven't told me what that Julian Vance looks like."

Just as Jocelyn was about to speak, a call from Adrian came in.

"I'll tell you next time. I have to take this call."
