The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 53

After dinner, Jocelyn watched as Adrian walked into Audrey's room.

During the meal, Audrey had made a special point to say, "Leo hasn't seen Adrian all day, I think he misses him."

A baby less than a month old could miss someone?

The excuse was laughably thin, but Adrian bought it.

So, after eating, he went to see his "nephew."

An hour later, Adrian came to Jocelyn's room.

She had just showered and was sitting on the bed, reading a book.

Adrian seemed very happy.

"Leo's appetite has really grown these past couple of days."

Jocelyn rolled her eyes. "Did you personally witness Audrey breastfeeding?"

Adrian paused slightly. "You can tell just by looking at him. He's gotten much chubbier."

Jocelyn pursed her lips and didn't reply.

"You haven't held him since he was born. Are you still angry?"

Jocelyn forced a perfunctory smile.

"Leo is the family's treasure. I don't have much experience with babies, so I don't dare to hold him."

Adrian walked over and ruffled her hair.

"You'll have to learn eventually. If we have a child of our own one day, this will be good practice."

"We won't be having any children," Jocelyn thought.

"I've been reconsidering your father's request for a loan."

Jocelyn waited silently for him to continue.

"I know the chairman of a private bank. I spoke with him, and he's agreed to give your father a loan."

"Which bank?" Jocelyn asked.

"Sterling Trust Bank."

Jocelyn scoffed internally. The interest rates at that bank were notoriously high.

They were practically on par with loan sharks.

Jocelyn's heart was already cold. She said flatly, "Thank you, but that won't be necessary."

"What do you mean?"

So, he had come to Jocelyn.

The sight of her in a sexy nightgown, her flawless, beautiful collarbones partially visible, had only fueled his desire further.

Adrian took a quick shower and came out with a towel wrapped around his waist.

Jocelyn was still sitting calmly on the bed.

Adrian got into bed from the other side. "Stop reading. Let's get some rest."

Jocelyn closed the book and said slowly, "Are you sleeping here tonight?"

"Is that strange?"

"A little. We haven't slept in the same bed for a long time."

Adrian turned on his side, his lips moving closer to Jocelyn's neck.

"What perfume are you wearing? It smells so good."

The scent made his entire body tense up.

Jocelyn hid her disgust. "It's probably just the body wash."

Adrian's hand drifted upward, his fingers tracing the edge of her neckline.
