The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 54

He was nothing more than an animal, entirely ruled by his baser instincts.

Jocelyn caught his hand. "It's not a good time for me."

Adrian frowned. "Are you on your period?"

"Yes, it started this morning."

The words were like a sudden dousing of ice water, instantly killing the heat of the moment. He quickly pulled his hand back.

"How convenient."

Jocelyn knew she was safe; Adrian was such a massive germaphobe that he wouldn't dream of checking.

The heat in Adrian's body hadn't subsided. He grabbed Jocelyn's hand again, pulling it under the covers as he panted slightly.

"Help me."

Now Jocelyn started to panic.

If she really helped him today, she would probably want to cut off her own hand afterwards.

Jocelyn blinked, her expression turning pitiful. "Adrian, there's something I've been afraid to tell you."

Adrian paused, his eyes burning as he looked at her. "What is it?"

Jocelyn pulled her hand back and opened the drawer of the bedside table.

A medical report was placed in Adrian's hand.

Adrian stared at it for a long time, not understanding it.

"What is this?"

"I haven't been feeling well the past few days, so I went to the hospital for a check-up. The doctor said I have a minor infection and that to avoid cross-contamination, it's best if we don't have intercourse for a while."

Adrian threw the report away like it was a hot potato.

"How did you get something like that?"

Jocelyn sighed. "It's just part of being a woman. When your immune system is weak, you're more susceptible to these kinds of issues. It's perfectly normal."

Adrian was silent for a moment, then threw back the covers and got out of bed.

"Well, I won't disturb your rest then. You should get to sleep early."

Jocelyn secretly let out a sigh of relief.

"Adrian, I'm sorry..."

Some of Adrian's desire had faded, but he was still annoyed.

"Have Maria make you some nutritious food."

With that, Adrian left.

He raised his hand to knock, then stopped.

No one knew what he was thinking. He turned and walked away.

"Adrian."

Audrey rushed to open the door, her voice soft.

Adrian stopped and turned around. "You're still awake?"

"I can't sleep. Adrian, can you stay with me for a little while?"

Adrian hesitated.

Audrey's face fell. "Adrian, do you hate me now?"

Adrian didn't know what was wrong with him. He felt a tightness in his chest, a pressure he couldn't swallow or release.

It was tormenting him.

In the end, he softened and went into the room with Audrey.

The moment the door closed, Audrey suddenly wrapped her arms around him from behind.

Her soft chest pressed against his back, her boneless voice a seductive whisper.

"Adrian..."
