The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 62

"If you don't want to stay in this family, then feel free. The doors to the Lowell estate aren't locked. You can leave whenever you want."

Tsk.

Finally, she was showing her true colors. So this was the real purpose of this whole charade.

Adrian was taken aback by the words. "Grandma! Jo, she..."

"You be quiet!" Eleanor barked. "If it weren't for your impulsiveness back then, you never would have brought a woman like this into our home. You've brought nothing but shame to the Lowell name!"

Worried for her precious great-grandson, Eleanor's words were merciless.

Michelle spoke up, feeling wronged on her son's behalf.

"Mom, how can you blame Adrian for this? It was this woman who was obsessed with him, desperate to join the Lowell family."

As she finished, the look Eleanor shot Jocelyn was filled with contempt.

Jocelyn pieced it all together and suddenly understood the key. She managed to keep her composure and lowered her head.

"Grandma, Mom, I'm sorry. It was my fault. I assumed Leo was being so well cared for that it couldn't be anything serious, so I thought a few more minutes wouldn't make a difference."

"Hmph!" Michelle rolled her eyes. "What else could you possibly care about besides the Lowell family's assets?"

Jocelyn's expression was full of remorse. "It was my mistake. Grandma, please punish me."

Eleanor hadn't expected the script to deviate from her plan and was momentarily stunned.

Jocelyn continued, "How about I get down on my knees, just like Claire was punished last time?"

This suggestion was exactly what Claire wanted. "Yes! Grandma, make her beg on her knees! Make her kneel until she truly understands what she did wrong!"

Eleanor said, "Since you suggested it, then..."

Jocelyn cut in, "But I have to attend a charity event with Adrian next week. If my knees are bruised and people see, won't it start more rumors? The loving-couple image Adrian just managed to build would be ruined again."

Eleanor caught her breath, unable to argue. The woman had a point.

Right now, Adrian's reputation was the one thing that couldn't be damaged.

Jocelyn offered, "Grandma, how about you just punish me by not letting me eat for a day? I'll stay in my room and reflect on my actions."

"You!"

"Go to your room!" Adrian ordered in a cold voice.

Claire gloated, "My brother just told you to get back to your room. Didn't you hear him?"

Adrian's voice was sharp. "I was talking to you!"

Claire was indignant. "Adrian! I don't get it. Why are you defending this woman more and more? You don't even love her!"

Adrian's face darkened. "Did my words go in one ear and out the other? Show her some respect."

"In your dreams!"

Claire stormed off without looking back.

Jocelyn moved closer to Adrian, tilting her head with a knowing smile.

"Now that everyone's gone, as my husband, don't you think you owe me a sincere apology?"
