The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 63

If Adrian had just said one honest word in her defense today, Jocelyn wouldn't have been saddled with all the blame.

But he had chosen silence.

Jocelyn knew he was afraid of Eleanor.

Although Adrian was managing the Lowell family's business now, Eleanor still held the largest stake in Momentum AI, not to mention her own separate ventures.

She had originally intended to leave all of it to Arthur.

Outsiders would never know that Eleanor's favorite was her younger grandson, Arthur.

The reason for this was likely rooted in a lifetime of pain and resentment she could never erase.

Adrian knew his grandmother favored his brother and held no resentment over it. But recently, for some reason, he'd started to feel a flicker of aversion to her authoritarian ways.

However, Adrian was good at hiding his emotions. His respect and obedience toward Eleanor were mostly tied to the family business.

After all, no one turns their back on money.

So today, when Eleanor had demanded to know why he hadn't returned immediately, Adrian had casually replied, "I had to finish things up with her."

That one sentence had thrown Jocelyn directly into the fire.

Everyone assumed Jocelyn had deliberately kept him from coming back. Coupled with Claire's fabrications, the accusation was sealed.

Naturally, Jocelyn wasn't willing to take the fall for nothing.

"Adrian, you're my husband. You're the only one I can rely on in this family. But now I realize you never intended to be my support. It's just as Grandma said—you only married me on an impulse."

Thank God she was completely over this man. Otherwise, saying those words would have been enough to make her cry.

Jocelyn was only saying it to see if she could stir a flicker of guilt in him.

To her surprise, the result was better than she'd expected.

Adrian said, "At the charity auction next week, tell me what you like. I'll buy it for you."

In the dead of night, Jocelyn woke up parched.

The nanny was touched. "Jocelyn, you're a truly good person."

Jocelyn patted her arm. "When your contract is up, I'll give you a bonus. Consider it compensation for what you've had to put up with."

The nanny was even more grateful.

"Thank you, Jocelyn. Thank you."

Jocelyn said, "Go on, now. Take good care of the young master. He's seriously ill right now, so you can't be careless."

The nanny replied, "What serious illness? It's just an allergic reaction from the body lotion Audrey used on him the day before yesterday. It's really not a big deal and would have cleared up in a few days. But for some reason, Audrey started crying and making a huge scene, insisting on going to the hospital."

"She was worried Mrs. Lowell and the others would find out and blame her for being careless, so she tried to hide it at first."

Jocelyn asked, "Are you saying Leo isn't sick, and the rash on his body is just from an allergic reaction two days ago?"

The nanny confirmed, "That's right. They all knew at the hospital."
