The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 79

Afterward, everyone joyfully indulged in the delicious meal. Only Jocelyn couldn't muster any interest in the food.

Sarah saw this and sighed silently. She placed a piece of Honey-Glazed Short Ribs on Jocelyn's plate and whispered in her ear, "Since you're here, you should be happy. Eat and drink. Making yourself miserable will only please the bastards who hurt you."

"Didn't you say you wanted to treat me to Aurelia last time? Well, here we are. Liam's paying, so let's eat our fill."

Jocelyn smiled, feeling a sense of release. "You're right."

Liam came over with a glass of wine. "You two, stop whispering. Come on, drink up! This is a fine wine I've been saving here. I don't just bring it out for anyone."

He poured a glass for Jocelyn.

Just as Jocelyn was about to refuse, Sarah jumped in.

"Jo has quit drinking. I'll drink this one for you."

But Liam wouldn't have it. "Last time I took a drink for you because I couldn't stand seeing someone force you to drink. Today is my birthday. Just one glass. Besides, this wine is so good, I want you to try it."

Jocelyn didn't want to announce her pregnancy, so she made up a lie. "I'm on my period."

Liam raised an eyebrow. "Does that thing of yours have such perfect timing? It couldn't have come earlier or later, it just had to be on my birthday?"

Jocelyn retorted, "Who told you to have your birthday when I'm on my period?"

Liam, speechless, burst into a hearty laugh.

"You haven't changed a bit. Still as sharp-tongued as ever."

With that, he downed the wine in his glass and sighed.

"But it's like you're not the same as before."

Jocelyn said, "I'm still me."

Jocelyn lowered her head, stifling a laugh. She never knew Julian could be so witty.

Sarah clapped her hands. "Well said, Mr. Vance! He is a pile of manure!"

Liam, far from being angry, just laughed. "You guys are the only ones who dare to joke with me like this."

Then, Liam leaned in and whispered something in Julian's ear. A smile spread across Julian's face.

Sarah leaned over to Jocelyn and whispered, "Are you really not going to tell him he's the father of the baby in your belly?"

Jocelyn shook her head.

Sarah said, "It's a shame. He's engaged. Otherwise, after your divorce, you two would be a great match."

Jocelyn replied casually, "I'm not planning on it."
