Sarah scoffed. "One bad fall doesn't mean you give up riding. You live and you learn. Just don't be a fool for love again. Find someone you both like, or at the very least, someone who likes you. It's better than having a one-sided crush and ending up with nothing."
"These days, how many unrequited loves end well?"
Jocelyn lowered her gaze and sighed. She had indeed lost badly. But at least she had been able to stop herself before it was too late.
"That's just how men are. If they get something too easily, they won't cherish it. But the things they can't quite reach? Those are the ones they'll worship."
After saying this, Sarah couldn't help but glance at Julian. "But I don't think Mr. Vance is that type of person. He seems different."
Jocelyn teased, "You've got a crush?"
Sarah joked, "If you don't want him, I'll take him."
Jocelyn reminded her, "He's engaged, you know."
Sarah replied, "What if they break it off one day?"
Jocelyn couldn't help but laugh. "Can't you wish people well?"
Sarah said, "You never know."
Liam suddenly turned his head and pointed at Jocelyn. "You! Apologize to me! You've made me a laughingstock for all these years."
Jocelyn knew he was drunk and didn't mind. He had always been like this, saying whatever was on his mind. It was a thousand times better than those who hid their true intentions and played games. And the title 'Mr. Liam Bancroft,' he had earned it himself, without any help from his parents. Whether his relationship with his parents was strained or if he didn't have any, Liam never mentioned his family to anyone.
Jocelyn remembered once when someone had casually asked about his parents. His expression had changed instantly. From that day on, Jocelyn knew this was probably his weak spot. Or a sore spot. Not to be mentioned. So, Jocelyn had never asked.
Seeing Jocelyn remain silent, Liam mumbled, "Apologize to me."
Sarah rolled her eyes. "Liam, don't make me punch you at your own birthday party."
Julian's voice was still soft and gentle.
"Is something on your mind?"
Jocelyn couldn't hide her sadness. "I've had a lot of bad things happen today. I've been trying to tell myself not to be unhappy, but it seems a little difficult."
Julian didn't press, only asking, "Are you feeling okay?"
Jocelyn knew what he was really asking and instinctively touched her stomach.
"I'm feeling fine."
It was just that her pregnancy symptoms were becoming more obvious. That's why Jocelyn tried to avoid the Lowell family as much as possible, to prevent them from seeing any signs. But sometimes, the more you try to avoid something, the harder it is. Luckily, so far, everything was safe.
Julian said, "Want to sit on the sofa over there for a bit? And talk?"
