The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 89

The door to the private room creaked open, and a familiar voice called out.

"Julian."

That voice…

It sounded an awful lot like Claire Lowell.

That girl always used that sweet, cloying tone when she was trying to be cute.

Combined with her innocent face, it was easy to mistake her for a simple young girl.

In reality, she was a little devil.

"Ms. Lowell."

It really was her!

Jocelyn shot up in a panic.

She absolutely could not let Claire see her with Julian.

It would cause too much trouble.

Jocelyn quickly stood and scanned the room.

Thank goodness, there was a closet.

She hurried over, opened the door, and slipped inside.

Ethan was confused at first, but he quickly understood.

Julian had instructed him that his contact with Jocelyn was to be kept strictly between them, never to be leaked.

Remembering this, Ethan even went over to check that the closet door was properly closed.

Claire ran over cheerfully.

"Julian, what a coincidence. You're here for tea too?"

She was acting as if they were old friends.

Julian, though polite, was firm.

"Ms. Lowell, I don't believe we know each other that well. Please call me Mr. Vance."

Claire gazed at the face she had been dreaming about for days. Hearing such distant words, she couldn't even muster any anger.

"'Mr. Vance' sounds so formal. How about I call you Julian?"

Julian's expression was indifferent. "As you wish."

"Are you here with a friend too?" Claire asked.

"Yes."

Claire peeked her head through the crack in the door.

"Who is it? Your girlfriend?"

Anyone could tell she was really asking if Julian had a girlfriend.

"I don't have a girlfriend," Julian stated.

Ethan, free to say what Julian couldn't, was blunt.

"Ms. Lowell, this is a private room. Don't you think it's incredibly rude to just barge in like this?"

Claire was still all smiles.

"I thought it might be Julian's fiancée. I was just curious and wanted to see."

Ethan was thoroughly annoyed.

"Have you seen enough? Can you leave now?"

Claire's smile vanished.

"Who are you?"

How arrogant.

Didn't he know she was the daughter of the Lowell family?

"I'm Mr. Vance's assistant."

Claire thought to herself: "Just a stupid assistant. What right does he have to talk to me like that?"

But since he was the assistant of the man she liked, she had to show some restraint.

So, even though Claire looked down on Ethan, she didn't show it.

Ethan, however, had no qualms about kicking her out.
