Chapter 63-2
Mayhem takes one stow step forward. “What business have you got with Cobra?”
“Well…” She tilts her head thoughtfully, and a smile spreads across her face. “I’d really rather tell him directly.”
“Is that so?”
“Yes. Please.”
Mayhem studies her for a long moment, then looks towards Tucker.
Tucker sighs. “I’ll go get him.”
As Tucker disappears next door, the woman looks around the garage again with open delight.
“I have to say…” She smiles at all of us, her dark eyes twinkling. “You’ve all been much friendlier than my horoscope predicted.”
Nobody knows what to do with that, least of all me.
Because somewhere between complimenting Tucker’s glasses, admiring Diesel’s beard, introducing herself to a motorcycle, and silencing my brother – all in under sixty seconds – I’ve come to one very definite conclusion:
She’s either the coolest woman that I’ve ever met… or she’s completely, gloriously bonkers.
Before anybody can say another word, the side door opens again.
Jade backs into the garage carrying two cardboard trays overloaded with takeaway coffees while balancing a paper bag against her hip.
“Right,” she announces. “Snacks have arrived, and if any of you touch my cinnamon bun -”
Jade stops, her eyes landing on the woman standing beside me. Then, before I have the faintest idea what’s happening, the strange woman steps forward and throws her arms around me.
“Oh,” she murmurs happily. “You look like you need a hug.”
I freeze, mainly because my brain has temporarily stopped functioning. Somewhere behind me, I hear everyone move towards us, clearly thinking that this lunatic must have been sent by Knox. Like she’s a patchouli-scented Ninja assassin, or something.
Mayhem takes one sharp step forward. “What the fuck, lady? Get your fucking hands off her!”
The woman lets me go just as suddenly as she’d grabbed me, smiling as though hugging complete strangers in motorcycle garages is perfectly ordinary behavior.
“There!” she says brightly. “That felt important, like you really needed that.”
I blink. “I…”
“I hope that’s okay.”

+honestly don’t know.”
She nods thoughtfully. “Fair.”
Clam
Jade hasn’t moved. The coffees are still balanced perfectly in her hands, but all the warmth has disappeared from her expression. She isn’t frowning. She isn’t smiling. She’s just… watching. Very quietly and carefully.
The woman turns to her now. “You brought food.”
“I did.”
“You’re clearly everyone’s favorite.”
Jade smiles politely.
“Are you married to the grumpy one?” The woman nods towards Mayhem.
“I am,” Jade says slowly.
“Yes.” The woman studies my brother for a long moment. “That makes sense.”
Mayhem crosses his massive arms. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
“You look like someone who needs reminding to have fun.”,”
Diesel bursts out laughing, but Mayhem doesn’t.
The woman simply smiles again, entirely unbothered. “I’m Willow.”
Nobody else offers their names, and the silence stretches just long enough to become awkward. Then footsteps sound on the staircase leading down from the clubhouse next door.
Dad.
He walks into the garage, clearly expecting to deal with a supplier or a customer. Instead, he finds a workshop full of unusually quiet bikers and one smiling woman in a long green skirt and feathers in her hair.
He stops. “Can I help you?”
Willow turns, and for the first time since she arrived, she doesn’t speak immediately. She simply looks at him. Really looks at him.
Her head tilts ever so slightly. “Huh.”
Dad raises an eyebrow. “Huh?”
“I thought you’d be taller.”
Dad folds his arms. “I’ve been called many things over the years.”
“I’m sure.”
“But never disappointing.”

Oh no.” Willow laughs softly. “You’re not disappointing.” She studies him for another moment. “I just Timagined… more beard.”
“I’m afraid I don’t know who you are,” Dad says.
“I know.”
Claim
She says it so gently that it almost sounds kind, then she slips the embroidered satchel from her shoulder.
Every man in the garage goes just a little still, and if this alarms her, Willow doesn’t show it. She reaches inside the bag, slowly and carefully, before pulling out a single faded photograph.
Nothing more.
She walks towards Dad and offers it to him, and he takes it automatically. Glances down.
Nothing happens. But then… everything does.
His entire body goes still. His thumb brushes lightly across the worn edge of the photograph. His voice, when it comes, is barely above a whisper:
“Denise.”
Willow’s smile softens. “I hoped you’d remember her.”
The garage has gone completely silent. Even Mayhem isn’t breathing.
Dad slowly lifts his eyes from the photograph to her face, and for the first time in my entire life, my looks completely blindsided.
“Who are you?” he asks.
Willow holds his gaze, the smile never leaving her face. “Can’t you guess, James?”
father
Nobody – absolutely nobody – calls Cobra by his civilian name. I’d bet that the majority of the guys in the MC don’t even know what it is.
Then Willow says the two words that change everything.
“Hello…”
A tiny pause.
“…Dad.”
