The MC President's Forsaken Wife (Zara and Knox) novel Chapter 133

Chapter 78-2

Soulmates.

I stare at her. Willow’s smiling like she’s just given me amazing news, and suddenly I have no idea how to handle this. Very carefully, I close my fingers around the bracelet.

“I think you’ve misunderstood a few things, Willow.”

“No.” The certainty in her voice is absolute. “I’ve understood perfectly well.”

“I really don’t think you have,” I say carefully. “I think you’ve made a mistake.”

“The universe doesn’t make mistakes,” she says. “Not ever.”

I stare at her. Then, suddenly, I see the kitchen again:

The bottle of wine on the counter. Willow laughing, her face shining and turned towards me. Her hand settling over my wrist while she traced a line in my palm and told me that I carried too much responsibility.

At the time, I had barely registered any of it. I mean, she’s Zara’s sister, and as she and Jade and Mayhem. said the other night, Willow’s weird, maybe, but harmless. Earnest. Lonely. Trying too hard to belong in a family that has existed without her for years.

I smiled at her because I didn’t want her to feel unwelcome; I listened to her chatter because I know what it was to walk into a room and understand that everyone else shared a history you don’t. I was kind. And Zara had seen something in all of that I hadn’t.

Oh, God.

“Willow,” I say.

She tips her head. “Yes?”

“I need to be very clear with you.”

Her smile widens slightly, as though she’s pleased I’m finally participating. “I know.”

“No.” I force my voice to remain gentle. “I don’t think you do.”

I look towards the clubhouse, and hesitate. This isn’t the place to carry oil this conversation. Mayhem could walk outside at any moment, Cobra could appear in the doorway. Half the club could hear one wrong sentence and turn this into something that it just isn’t.

I gesture towards the side of the building. “Can we talk somewhere quieter?”

Around the side of the clubhouse, a narrow strip of grass separates the building from the fence. Someone has placed two old chairs beneath the shade, but Willow ignores them and crouches beside a wooden

planter overflowing with wildflowers and herbs. She begins straightening one of the stems.

“Look, Willow” I remain standing. “I need to tell you something.”

She looks up at me “I know.”

breathe out slowly. “No, Willow. You keep saying that, but you don’t.”

She rises, brushing soil from her fingers, then she reaches for my hand. “I’ve been waiting.”

The moment her fingers touch mine, understanding settles fully into place. I see Zara’s face in the hallway, I remember the way she told me to leave her in the hospital.

She hadn’t been confused, and she sure as fuck hadn’t imagined anything. She had read Willow perfectly… and I had made her feel foolish and alone for it.

I pull my hand free, and Willow blinks in surprise.

“I’m with Zara.”

“As you should be.”

I stare at her. “What?”

“She brought you to me.”

The words are so quiet that, for a second, I think I misheard them.

“She didn’t bring me to you,” I stammer. “That’s not what happened at all.”

“In a way, she did.” Willow’s expression stays serene. “If her marriage hadn’t broken up, if she hadn’t come back to the clubhouse, if she hadn’t needed you to help her, if everything hadn’t happened exactly as it did,

we would never have met.”

“I – I don’t -“I feel the ground shifting beneath a conversation that I thought I understood. “That doesn’t mean we’re meant to be together.”

“It means our paths were meant to cross.” She looks at me with genuine tenderness. “Zara and you met, and she’s my half-sister. She brought us together.”
