Chapter 91-3
I let out a small, bitter breath, my fingers tracing the hard line of Locke’s collarbone. “Jade was ready to kill her with her heels.”
A faint, low rumble of amusement vibrates in Locke’s chest, “Jade’s a lunatic when it comes to you. Mayhem had to hold her back in the elevator on the ride up just to make sure she didn’t sprint out into the snowstorm to hunt Willow down herself.”
I smile faintly against his skin, the thought of my best friend bringing a tiny spark of light into the dark room. “She called Willow a thrift-store demon.”
“She ain’t wrong,” Locke mutters, his fingers gently playing with the ends of my hair. “Having her and Mayhem here… it helped. Mayhem called some MC allies after he and Jade left here. He’s putting Willow’s name, face, and info in every clubhouse from here to the coast. If she so much as buys a cup of coffee near club territory, we’re going to know about it.”
“It feels like we’re at war,” I whisper, the reality of the situation settling heavy on my chest. “First Knox and the whole damn drugs mess… and now this.”
Locke shifts slightly, holding my chin between his thumb and forefinger, tilting my head up so I’m forced to look directly into his eyes.
“Listen to me, baby,” Locke says, his voice dropping into a register so dark, so absolute, it rings like a vow in the quiet room. “Knox was already enough for us to turn this city into a fortress.”
“Really?”
“Yeah,” he says. “We already had the guards posted, the routes swept, and the club on high alert. But Willow breaking in here? Crossing into our home? She just guaranteed that you have more protection on you right now than the fucking President of the USA himself.”
He leans down, resting his forehead against mine, his hot breath brushing over my lips.
“There isn’t a shadow in this city that I’m not watching,” Locke says. “There isn’t a door you walk through that I haven’t cleared first. I don’t care if it’s Knox, I don’t care if it’s Willow, I don’t care if it’s the fucking hounds of hell, nobody touches you. Nobody gets past me. You’re my world, Zara, you hear me? My entire fucking world.”
A tear slips down my cheek, but this time it isn’t from fear. It’s from the sheer, overwhelming weight of how deeply, terrifyingly cherished I am by the man holding me.
“I hear you,” I say. “And ditto, handsome.”
Locke smiles softly, a real, beautiful warmth breaking through the dark lines of his face. He leans in and presses a lingering, tender kiss against my lips… slow, sweet, and entirely consuming, driving the last lingering shadows of the nightmare completely out of my head.
When he pulls back, he shifts down onto the mattress, dragging me with him so my head is resting securely over his heart, my arm draped across his muscled stomach. He pulls the heavy duvet up over both of us, wrapping his massive arm around my shoulders and locking me against his side.

CChapter 91
“Go back to sleep, baby,” Locke murmurs into the dark. “I’m staying awake. I’ve got the watch. I’ll watch you”
I close my eyes, listening to the heavy, steady thud of his heart beneath my cheek. Outside, the snow continues to fall against the glass, but inside the dark bedroom, held tightly in the arms of the man who would burn the world down to keep me safe, the terror finally fades away.
I sleep.
