Chapter 105-2
“Understood,” Rook says grimly.
“Good,” Cobra says, turning toward the heavy steel door set into the far left wall, the old meat locker’s deep-freeze unit. “Now let’s deal with Knox’s driver.”

The door to the deep-freeze unit opens with a heavy, mechanical clunk as Bishop throws the external iron latch. The air inside smells of damp stone, old rust, and absolute defeat.
Sitting on a bare steel folding chair in the center of the windowless room is Miller.
Knox’s haulage driver looks like a ghost. His jacket is filthy, stained with dark grease and sweat, and his hands are zip-tied behind his back to the chair frame. Fourteen hours locked in absolute darkness fifty feet underground has broken him completely.
The moment the light spills over him, Miller flinches violently, trembling like a leaf.
“Please,” he says, his voice hoarse and raw. “I’m just the transport guy… I don’t know shit about anything else. I just drive the flatbed from the docks to Route 9. I don’t – I don’t run the lab. I don’t run anything.”
Cobra steps into the small room first, grabbing a wooden crate to sit directly opposite Miller. The silence stretches for ten agonizing seconds, filled only by Miller’s wet, panicked gasping.
“Miller.” Cobra finally speaks, his voice a low, quiet gravel. “You look cold.”
“I… I’m fine,” Miller stammers, teeth chattering. “Please., Mr. Cobra, sir. I’m not a drug dealer. I’ve just been driving transport for Knox for five years… I do what I’m told, and I go where he tells me. I drop things off and unload them, and drive away again. That’s it.”
“Knox is losing his damn mind right now,” I say softly from the shadows. “He thinks someone inside his own crew stole that truck. He’s got his guys tearing their own people apart, interrogating his inner circle. He doesn’t even know we have the cargo.”
Miller gasps, bloodshot eyes widening in terror. “Oh Jesus… if Knox thinks it was an inside job, he’s going to put a bullet in everyone who touched the route…”
“He doesn’t know where you are,” Cobra interrupts, leaning forward. “As far as Knox is concerned, you vanished off the map along with that truck. But you’re an asset to us, Miller. You’ve hauled supply for five years. You’ve been inside the Route 9 lab. You know the entry protocols, shift changes, and security layouts.”
“I – I don’t know the tech stuff!” Miller cries out, pulling his wrists against the plastic ties until the skin turns red. “I don’t know how to to cook drugs! And I know shit about the money.”
“You don’t need to know the tech, or the production, or the money trail,” I say. “You know where the guard posts sit. You know where the backup generators are wired. You know how many cameras cover the loading ramp.”
Cobra stands up, his massive frame filling the small room and pushing the air right out of Miller’s chest. He places a single, heavy, crushing hand on Miller’s shoulder.
“Here’s how this works, Miller, Cobra says, his voice dropping low as grinding stones. “Choice one: you

keep playing stupid. We cut those zip-ties, open that door out front, and leave you standing on the street corner downtown. No money, no protection… and you wait for Knox to find you.”
Miller trembles violently sweat cutting a track through the dirt on his pale cheek. “What’s… what’s choice two?”
Cobra leans down, bringing his face inches from Miller’s.
“Choice two is you start talking, and when this is over, we put you on a bus out west. New name. Clean papers. A bit of cash. Fresh start.”
“I – I don’t-”
“Make no mistake,” Cobra cuts him off. “Knox isn’t looking for a sensible explanation right now. He’s looking for a target.”
六
Miller tries to swallow, but his throat is bone-dry. His eyes dart wildly toward the closed door of the back room, as if Knox might crash through it at any second.
“Think about how Knox’s brain works,” Cobra continues, his tone almost conversational. “He realizes the stash is gone. He knows who had access, who was on shift, and who was stupid enough to run the second that things went sideways.”
