Chapter 131-2
“It’s not on fire, it’s searing,” he says, entirely unbothered. He’s sitting beside me on the plush sheepskin rug, naked as the day he was born, looking like a heavily tattooed Norse god holding a tiny wooden stick. “You have to burn the outside slightly to get the inside melted. It’s science, baby.”
“It’s a flaming torch,” I correct, leaning over to blow out the tiny orange flare dancing on the blackened sugar puff. “You’re supposed to rotate it above the coals, not shove it directly into the heart of Mount Doom.”
“I know what I’m doing,” he insists, though his lips twitch into a subtle, amused smirk. “I really do.”
He carefully slides the sticky, slightly charred marshmallow off the stick onto a graham cracker with a large square of chocolate, pressing another cracker down on top until the melted center oozes out the sides. He hands it to me with the solemn reverence of a man presenting a prized trophy.
“There,” he says. “Eat your gourmet dinner.”
I take it, wrapped tightly in the oversized fleece blanket he draped over my shoulders earlier. My hair is a chaotic, tangled nest, my eye makeup is undoubtedly smeared into dark smudges under my lower lashes from earlier, and my cheeks burn warm from the heat of the fire.
In other words, I’m a complete, sticky mess… and I haven’t felt this genuinely, effortlessly happy in years.
I take a bite, letting out an embarrassed groan at how ridiculously good it tastes. “Okay, fine. It’s delicious.
You win.”
“I always win,” Locke says. He glances over at my plate, eyeing my half-eaten graham cracker like a hungry wolf. “So are you going to share it?”
“In your dreams,” I say, pulling the plate defensively against my ribs. “You burned yours. This one is structural perfection.”
‘Structural perfection?” Locke huffs. He leans in close, his broad shoulder nudging mine. “I made the damn thing, Zara, I get a tax on it.”
Before I can dodge, his large hand reaches out, catching my wrist with gentle firmness. Instead of stealing the s’more, he just pulls my hand toward his mouth, taking a deliberate, shameless bite right off the edge while keeping his eyes locked on mine.
“Hey! That’s grand theft confectionery. You’re a menace.”
“I’m a growing boy.”
“You are unbelievable.” I shake my head. “Besides, you’re ruining your scary reputation, you know. If the club saw you right now – sitting naked on a sheepskin rug like a porn star, covered in marshmallow – they’d never take you seriously again.”
“Let them try,” Locke says. “I’ll beat the hell out of anyone who tries to judge my s’more-making craft. Especially since I’m clearly a natural.”
“A natural? Locke, you almost set the curtains on fire three minutes ago.”

Chapter 131-
Details, baby,” he says, catching my hand in his and bringing it up to press a soft, lingering kiss to my knuckles. “The end result is that you’re full, you’re smiling, and you’re sitting naked in front of a fire. I’d call that an unqualified victory.”
I flush, the warmth spreading all the way down to my toes as he tugs gently on my hand, pulling me until I’m turned toward him, resting against the massive, solid wall of his chest. He wraps the fleece blanket tighter around the both of us, sealing us into our own warm, private world while the storm continues to lash against the glass outside.
“You really are something else, you know that?” say, my fingers lightly tracing the dark ink winding across his collarbone. “I didn’t think it was possible to feel this relaxed. This… safe.”
Locke’s eyes soften, all the teasing fading into something immensely deep and profound. He tilts my chin up with two fingers.
“Get used to it,” he says softly. “Because as long as I’m breathing, Zara, this is how it’s gonna be.”
He stays leaning close, his fingers lingering on my skin, tracing the flush on my cheekbone, my messy, tangled hair, and the quiet, relaxed curve of my mouth. The light from the fire catches the softness in his eyes, washing away the cold, dangerous edge he wears for the rest of the world.
