The MC President's Forsaken Wife (Zara and Knox) novel Chapter 270

Chapter 135-1

The cold morning light streams through the penthouse, pale, crisp, and clean against the glass, but the hearth in the living room is still throwing out a deep, steady warmth.

CAMI

I shift beneath the heavy blanket, a soft, contented sigh escaping my lips as the cool morning air touches my bare shoulders.

Turning onto my side, I rest my cheek on my hand.

Across the open space of the penthouse, Locke is moving around the kitchen.

He’s bare-chested, wearing only a pair of boxer shorts that ride low on his hips.

The morning light carves out every sharp, dangerous angle of his pack, highlighting the thick, ropy muscle beneath his skin and the faint, pale lines of old scars running along his ribs.

I lie there on the rug for a long moment, letting myself simply admire the sight of him.

The sheer scale of the man – so massive, so undeniably lethal, yet so tender and gentle when it comes to me – sends a quiet, thrilling wave of heat humming straight through my veins.

It still feels surreal sometimes, waking up in this space without a knot in my stomach, without the suffocating weight of fear or the quiet, gnawing dread that used to define every single morning of my life.

“You know,” I call out softly, my voice raspy and thick with sleep. “You are utterly, absurdly gorgeous.”

Locke pauses, the small metal coffee scoop hovering over the pot for a fraction of a second. He finishes filling the basket, presses the start button, and turns around as the machine begins its low, steady hiss.

He leans his lower back against the dark marble counter, folding his heavy, tattooed arms over his massive chest, his eyes locking onto mine with an intensity that makes my pulse flutter.

“Is that right?” he says, with a faint, slow smirk. His gaze drifts slowly down the line of my bare shoulders peeking out from beneath the fleece blanket. “And here I thought I was just the guy bringing you coffee in your little blanket fort over there.”

“You’re both,” I say pertly, pulling the edge of the blanket up to my collarbone and snuggling deeper into the pile of sheepskin. “A lethally gorgeous man who makes exceptional coffee and brings it to me in bed. It’s a very dangerous combination.”

Locke pushes off the counter, his footsteps completely silent against the floorboards as he walks across the room toward the hearth.

He kneels right beside the rug, reaching down to tuck the edge of the fleece tighter around my back, his knuckles brushing tenderly against the warm flush of my cheek.

“You’re not so bad yourself, baby,” he murmurs, his voice dropping an octave, turning deep and gravelly. “In fact, looking at you wrapped up like this, I’m thinking the coffee can wait.”

I laugh softly, reaching my hand out from beneath the blanket to wrap my fingers around the back of his neck, tugging him down toward me. “Don’t tempt me. I’m dying for that caffeine.”

Locke doesn’t give me a choice, though. He leans in, his shadow falling over me as his mouth, warm, firm, and thoroughly possessive, covers mine.

The kiss starts slow, a lazy morning taste that quickly deepens into something heavier, making me gasp softly against his lips. His broad hand moves behind my head, his fingers tangling into my messy hair as he deepens the pull, drinking me in until my head is spinning and the chill in the air disappears completely.

“I love you, Zara,” he says, the three words spoken with the weight of a solemn vow. “So damn much.”

“I love you too, Locke,” I reply softly, tracing the line of his strong jaw with my thumb, feeling the faint scratch of his morning stubble. “More than I know how to say.”

He presses one more lingering, tender kiss to my lips before leaning back with a quiet chuckle, looking down at the way I’m watching him. “Alright, coffee first. Before I forget my own name.”

The machine finishes its final, sputtering cycle, and Locke pours two dark, steaming mugs, putting milk and sugar in mine. He carries them back over, handing mine to me as I sit up, carefully wrapping the fleece blanket securely around my chest and tucking it under my arms.
