Chapter 136-3
I choke on a breath, widening my eyes. “Oh nooooooo…”

“Oh yes,” Locke says cheerfully. “The impact ruptured the pressurized tanks. A giant pink mushroom cloud of confetti exploded everywhere. I spooked a herd of miniature alpacas being kept in an enclosure next door for a kid’s fair. The alpacas panicked, kicked down their fence, and stampeded straight into the industrial yard.”
“Alpacas?” I shriek with laughter. “Are you kidding me?”
“I wish I was,” Locke says. “Twenty tiny, terrified alpacas covered head-to-toe in neon-pink glitter went charging down the main road. Mayhem, panicking, tried to herd them back using the flatbed, but he ended up driving down the road like the grand marshal of a rogue, glittery alpaca parade, with local traffic completely paralyzed.”
“Oh, my God,” I whisper. “This is so much better than I ever imagined.”
“When Mayhem finally pulled up to the clubhouse, he had three pink alpacas sitting in the bed of the truck, confetti stuck in his hair, and a crowd of angry people in cars following behind him.”
“He brought back a parade of glittery alpacas?”
“Uh-huh. So Cobra walked out of the garage, took one look at the pink calamity, and just yelled, ‘The kid doesn’t even try, he just attracts pure, unadulterated mayhem!” Locke grins broadly. “The name was sealed in club history five minutes later.”
“That is incredible,” I gasp, wiping away my tears of laughter. “Honestly, though, knowing Mayhem? That tracks. He’s been like that his whole life!”
“A disaster, huh?”
“Yes, but a pretty great big brother, all told,” I say. “I love learning all of this. When I was a kid, all those road names sounded so intimidating, like a bunch of dangerous outlaws. But listening to you… you’re a family. A chaotic, fiercely loyal, slightly crazy family.”
Locke looks down at me, his eyes softening into that deep, intense gaze that always makes my heart skip a beat.
“That’s exactly what we are, Zara,” he says. “A family. We’ve all got scars, we’ve all got dark pasts, and most of us came from broken places. But when we put those leather vests on, we’re bound together by something stronger than blood. And every single one of those men would lay down their life to keep you safe.”
“I know they would,” I say softly. “And I know you would, too.”
“That is goddamn right, baby,” Locke replies, leaning down to press his lips gently against mine. The kiss is sweet, slow, and filled with a quiet promise that lingers in the air long after he pulls back. “And I’d do it in a heartbeat.”
I smile as a thought comes to me.
“Hey, I know what to get Mayhem for Christmas this year.”

What’s that, baby?”
“A pink alpaca stuffed animal!” I giggle. “Do you think he’d love it?”

Locke laughs, a deep, rumbling sound that vibrates against my cheek “If you hand Mayhem a pink alpaca, he’ll probably shoot it first and ask questions later – and then secretly hide it under his pillow.”
“Well, that decides it. A pink alpaca stuffe.” I c**k my head at him. “You think they sell them on sss?”
