The MC President's Forsaken Wife (Zara and Knox) novel Chapter 289

Chapter 143-1

Jade looks utterly stunning despite coming straight off her morning prep shift in the clubhouse bar.

She’s wearing red leather pants that hug every curve, a low-cut white crop top that shows off her flat, pierced stomach, and a stack of silver bangles that clink against her wrists every time she moves.

Chapm

Her red hair is styled in loose, beachy waves, her eyes are lined perfectly, and her lips are a scarlet red. In her hands, she carries two coffees in a cardboard tray.

“If it isn’t the grease monkey herself,” Jade calls out, her sharp green eyes sweeping over my bay before locking onto mine with a bright, familiar warmth. “Looking spiffy in those overalls, Zara.”

“Jade!” I say, peeling off my black nitrile gloves, throwing them into the trash. “To what do we owe the pleasure?”

I’m on lunch break,” she says, handing me one of the cups. “And since I knew you were here today, I decided to bring you a decaf.”

“You’re an absolute lifesaver,” I sigh, taking a long, deep sip of the sweet latte. “Diesel and the guys have been tormenting me all morning about Locke.”

“Hey, I heard that!” Diesel shouts from three bays down, his voice echoing off the high ceiling. “I don’t torment, I mentor. It’s character building!”

Jade turns back to me, a faint, mischievous smile playing on her lips as she leans against my tool cart, taking a sip of her own coffee. She looks me up and down, her sharp eyes taking in my glowing face, the slight looseness in my posture, and the relaxed line of my shoulders.

“So,” Jade drawls, her voice dropping into a low, teasing tone. “Look at you. You look… rested. Very rested. Locke treating you well in the high-rise paradise?”

“Why is everyone asking me that today?” I groan, though I can’t stop the flush from spreading across my cheeks yet again. “Yes, we’re good.”

“Good,” Jade says, her eyes softening with genuine affection for a quick second. “You look really happy. babe.”

She takes another sip of her drink, her gaze casually drifting around the garage floor.

She watches Brick carrying a heavy tire across the room, hears Diesel hammering away enthusiastically a few bays over, then checks the open doorway leading to the front office, ensuring Tucker is thoroughly distracted by his work.

The playful, teasing energy around her shifts almost imperceptibly, replacing itself with a tight, guarded stillness that instantly catches my attention.

“Hey,” Jade says, stepping in closer so her shoulder brushes mine. “Are you working tomorrow?”

I frown slightly, matching her quiet tone. “No. Tomorrow’s my day off. I’m only doing Monday, Wednesday, and Friday this week.”

“Good,” Jade says, her dark lashes fluttering slightly as she glances over her shoulder one more time

toward the garage doors before looking directly into my eyes. “Can I come over to the penthouse Tomorrow? Around ten o’clock, maybe?”

“Of course you can, answer immediately, resting my hand gently on her forearm. “You know you don’t even have to ask, Jade. You’re always welcome. Is everything okay?

Claim

Jade bites her full lower lip, a subtle, nervous flicker crossing her eyes before she smooths it over with a forced, reassuring smile.

“Yeah, everything’s fine,” she says, but her fingers tighten around her plastic coffee cup. “I just… I want to talk to you.”

She looks around the noisy, wide-open garage again, taking in the open bays, the echoing voices of the guys, and the constant movement of club members coming and going.

“I mean… I want to talk to you privately. Somewhere off club grounds where nobody’s listening, nobody’s interrupting, and there are no patches around.”

My pulse gives a small, uneasy thud against my ribs. “Jade… what’s going on? Is it about Mayhem?”

“We’ll talk tomorrow,” Jade interrupts. “I promise, it’s nothing to stress about today. Enjoy your build, enjoy your coffee, and let Locke take care of you tonight. Just… keep tomorrow morning open for me, okay? Just us two girls.”

I study her face carefully, searching for any sign of real distress, but she holds her expression perfectly guarded. It’s a skill you learn fast when you spend your days around a motorcycle club. Whatever it is, she clearly isn’t going to spill it on a noisy garage floor surrounded by mechanics and patched members.
