Chapter 162 2
Chapter 162-2
Locke reaches out, gently cupping my cheek, his rough skin warm against mine.

“There isn’t a single person in the club who can comb through mountains of documents and spot hidden patterns the way you can,” Locke says. “Matching order histories, finding the consistent fake buyer names, tracking recurring weight anomalies, isolating the exact dock schedules… that’s your superpower, Zara. You see the numbers clearly.”
A bright, breathless smile breaks across my face as I fully see what he’s saying. The relief is so
intense it nearly takes my breath away.
“It’s perfect,” I say, marveling at the strategy. “It gives us a completely solid, high-priority reason for
me to step away from wrenching: I need to sort through the paperwork and help map an ambush”
“And nobody in the club will fight it for a second.” A low, amused chuckle catches in his throat as he
shakes his head. “In fact, Mayhem is going to be your biggest cheerleader.”
“What do you mean?”
“Remember when he lost his shit because Cobra shut him down on intercepting a third highway transport truck? He was practically begging for the green light to hijack it.”
I laugh softly, remembering Dad telling me about the explosive argument. “I do.”
“So when I show him these files and tell him your numbers are giving us the green light to skip the
highway transports completely and hit the chemical supplier right at the source? He’s going to lose his mind with joy. Stealing directly from the loading dock is the ultimate ‘fuck you’ to Knox and
Vane.”
I burst out laughing, picturing Mayhem’s ruthless, eager grin when he hears he gets a heist
upgrade. “You’re right. He’s going to treat the documents you downloaded and took like holy
scripture.”
“And, you won’t be sidelined, or working in a garage and worrying about your health. You’ll be right
beside me in the office, using that brilliant brain to cut off Knox’s fucking lifeblood.”
I look at him, feeling the incredible weight of his devotion.
He didn’t just bring back valuable intel. He brought back a way to keep me safe… all without ever
making me feel helpless or benching me from the life we’ve built together.
He recognized my strengths, protected my autonomy, and created a fortress around me and our
growing baby.

I reach up, wrapping my arms around his broad neck, pulling his lips down to mine in a kiss that tastes like relief and absolute partnership.
He responds instantly, his heavy arms wrapping tightly around my waist, pulling my hips flush against his. The kiss is deep and grounding, a quiet promise exchanged in the quiet warmth of our kitchen. We’re in this together… every fight, every threat, every step of our future.
When he finally pulls back, his gaze turning soft as he checks the clock on the microwave.
“Doctor Mercer said the lab results should be e-mailed to us by two o’clock,” Locke murmurs. “That’s only a couple of hours away.”

He tightens his grip around me, rocking me slightly on his lap as the sunlight shifts across the wooden kitchen floorboards. The penthouse is quiet around us, shielding us from the harsh world
outside.
“You beat the dark once, Zara,” he says. “Your body is strong. Our baby is strong. Trust yourself.”
“I trust us,” I say. “I always trust us.”
And the clock on the wall ticks forward… counting down the seconds, minutes, and hours until the
e-mail arrives.
