Chapter 189-2
Chapter 189-2
My breath hitches, freezing in my throat.

Lying in the slush is her phone, its glass screen cracked and dark. And two inches away, half-buried in a patch of dirt and ice, is the heavy silver cuff bracelet I forged for her with my own hands. The custom silver band is twisted, violently split open, broken from raw, brutal force.
A dark, blinding rage ignites deep in the pit of my stomach – a lethal, suffocating heat that
instantly crystallizes into absolute, terrifying clarity.
I crouch down, my massive hand closing around the silver cuff. The cold metal bites into my palm
There are dark skid marks on the pavement from heavy vehicle tires, acceleration marks from a high-torque, heavy-frame vehicle.
Beside the tire treads, the snow is churned up, showing signs of a brief, violent struggle. Heavy
men’s boot prints, at least two sets. And tucked near the metal door jamb, a faint, dark smudge
against the brick.
They put their fucking hands on her.
They put their fucking hands on my woman. On my child.
I stand up slowly, the silver bracelet clamped in my fist so tightly the metal bites into my skin until I
bleed. The world around me narrows into a pinpoint of absolute, singular focus.
I pull out my phone, hit the second number on my speed dial.
“Locke?” Cobra answers on the second ring, his voice loud over the background noise of the clubhouse bar. “What’s up, man?”
“Cobra,” I cut in. “Code Black. Get to The Daily Grind. Now.”
“The what? Where?”
“I’ll text you the address. Just get here… and bring Mayhem. Nobody else.”
Less than twenty minutes later, the roar of Cobra’s custom motorcycle tears through the valley night, followed closely by Mayhem’s heavy-duty truck.
Cobra swings his leg off his bike before the engine even dies, pacing toward me under the single flickering alley light.
Without a word, I hold out my hand. Sitting in my palm is the cracked phone and the heavy silver cuff.

“Zara’s gone,” I say, “Her phone was smashed on the gravel right here. Her silver cuff was pulled off in a fight. Someone took her.”
Beside him, Mayhem completely freezes. The air punches right out of his lungs, his throat working silently as he stares at his sister’s broken bracelet sitting in my hand.
“Who the fuck took her?” Cobra growls, his fists clenching so hard his knuckles pop as panic hardens into a dangerous edge. “If Knox pulled this shit…”
“He touches my sister, I’ll put him in the ground myself,” Mayhem snarls. “He’ll beg me to kill him
“We don’t have proof it’s Knox yet,” I say, my voice entirely devoid of emotion. “It’s the highest probability, but we don’t move until we know. Raw temper gets her killed if we throw lead at the wrong target. We need eyes on what happened.”
Cobra’s he nods, reining in his immediate rage out of sheer necessity for his daughter. “The café. Maybe they’ve got cameras back here.”
We turn on our heels and march through the side exit door into the hallway of the café. Cobra shoves open the door to the main room, his imposing frame and patched cut immediately freezing
the room.
The few patrons look up in shock, and the kid behind the counter pales, backing up a step as Cobra, Mayhem and I approach the register like an impending storm.
“Manager,” Cobra barks, “Now.”
“That’s me,” the young man stammers, his eyes darting between our three furious faces. “But sir, we’re closing soon… we close at nine…
I step forward, towering over the counter. I place my hand flat on the wood, leaning in close
enough for him to see the absolute murder in my eyes.
“The woman that I love more than life itself was snatched out of your alley four hours ago,” I tell him. “You are going to take us to your security office right the fuck now, or I will tear this building
apart until I find the hard drives myself.”
“Office, right, okay,” the manager squeaks, his hands shaking so violently he nearly drops his keys
as he comes around the counter. “In the back. Follow me. Please.”
