The MC President's Forsaken Wife (Zara and Knox) novel Chapter 390

Chapter 191-1

Knox rests his chin on his folded hands, staring at me with a lazy, venomous satisfaction that makes my stomach turn far more than his anger did.

He looks like a predator who knows he’s about to plunge a knife into a wound I didn’t even know was exposed.

The two thugs behind him shift on their feet, their eyes darting to the broken skylights above, clearly unsettled by the quiet, heavy stillness of the dark space, but Knox is entirely consumed by his own sick sense of control.

“You look so confident sitting there,” Knox purrs, “Relying on big bad Locke to come save the day. Tell me, Zara… how does it feel, knowing that no matter how many times he fucks you, you’re still my wife? I owned you first, and on paper, I still own you now.”

I don’t blink. I keep my jaw set, staring straight back at him, forcing my breath to remain slow and steady.

“A piece of paper doesn’t make a marriage, Knox,” I say. “You were a mistake I walked away from. Locke is the man I chose.”

“Oh, Locke,” Knox drawls, rolling his eyes dramatically, leaning heavily over the backrest of the chair. “The great savior. You really think he’s going to fix everything for you, don’t you? You think you two are going to live happily ever after, playing house in his shiny little penthouse, pretending the past just disappears?”

Knox leans closer, his grin widening.

“Except you’re damaged goods, aren’t you, Zara?”

A cold prickle of discomfort needles at the base of my neck, but I force my expression to remain dead stone. I refuse to give him a single drop of reaction.

“Say whatever you want, Knox,” I reply softly. “You can’t hurt me.”

“Can’t I? Except maybe I don’t have to, huh? After all, you’re a woman whose body is eating

itself from the inside out.”

The air in my lungs completely freezes.

“What did you just say?” I whisper, my voice barely audible over the hum of the overhead light.

“You heard me, darling,” Knox says, tilting his head with vicious delight, savoring the sudden

My mind races frantically, spinning through possibilities, searching for a logical leak, a broken thread, anything to explain how this toxic fucking worm could possibly know the deepest, most vulnerable trauma of my life.

“How do you know about that?” I demand, my ice–cold composure cracking for the very first time, raw shock bleeding into my voice. “How the hell do you know that, Knox?”

Knox throws his head back and laughs, a loud, boisterous, triumphant roar that bounces off the iron walls of the warehouse. He revels in my shock, soaking in the sight of my widened eyes and pale face like a starved beast finding water after a drought.

“Look at that!” Knox howls, slapping his hand against the back of his chair. “The ice queen melts. I finally hit a nerve, didn’t I?”

“Answer me,” I snap, straining against the thick plastic zip–ties until the sharp edges slice deep into my wrists, warm blood trickling down my hands. “Who told you?”

Knox stops laughing, leaning forward until his face is inches from mine, his eyes burning with pure, unadulterated triumph.

“Who do you think, Zara?” Knox says, his voice dripping with venom. “Who did you spend your sweet, lovely afternoon with? Who did you sit with at the café, drinking tea and eating fucking carrot muffins and playing long–lost sisters?”

My heart stops. Literally stops in my chest.

Willow.

The memory of this afternoon hits me like a freight train, knocking the wind straight out of my chest.

Willow sitting across from me at the table in The Daily Grind. Willow smiling down at me, smiling at my stomach, sensing the tiny, fragile eleven–week life inside me, telling me how brave I was for surviving the cancer and fighting for my future.
