know,” I say, Testing my elbow on my knee. “Just tell me what you can, okay? Don’t leave me completely in the dark.”

“I’m not leaving you in the dark, baby. I’m keeping you safe. That’s my job. But I can tell you this

much… the bait worked.”

I hold my breath, listening intently to every rise and fall of his voice.

“Vane’s paid insider in the clerk’s office flagged the Apex Logistics filing late yesterday afternoon,”

Locke says. “Vane panicked just like you said he would. He thinks he’s acting on a private tip-off

before federal marshals lock down the grid.”

“Is he moving the lab?”

“He can’t move it all in one run. The raw chemicals require specialized containment. Vane’s

keeping the chemicals locked down inside the warehouse under heavy guard until he can secure a

safe secondary facility.”

“So what is he moving first?”

“The hardware and the drugs themselves.”

“Holy Lord.”

“Right this minute, three heavy transport trucks are being loaded with the custom industrial pill presses, the centrifuges, the encapsulation units, and millions of dollars in finished fentanyl pills. He’s trying to clear out his capital assets and his immediate liquidity first.”

I catch my breath. “And you’re going after the trucks?”

“We hit them on the old quarry haul road,” Locke says. “No chemical precursor means no toxic

vapor cloud when we blow the transports. We melt the machinery down to slag, burn the finished

product to ash, and leave Vane financially gutted.”

“They’re moving tonight,” I say, the reality settling over me like a sheet of ice. “Aren’t they?”

“They’re moving tonight,” Locke confirms. “Rook and Hammer have been sitting in a blind spot

since this evening, watching every rig pull in through long-range optics. They’ve got the whole

convoy mapped.”

I sit there in the dim glow of the bedroom, staring out at the distant lights of the city spread beneath the penthouse glass, listening to him, feeling the vast, terrifying distance between this

quiet room and the cold, violent reality of what’s about to happen.

“Locke…” My voice catches in my throat, the composure I’ve been desperately trying to maintain

cracking at the edges. “This isn’t paper anymore. You’re going out there.”

“Zara

“Don’t tell me not to worry,” I cut in, my voice fierce, raw, filled with the sudden, overwhelming terror that every woman in this life carries in her bone marrow. “Don’t tell me it’s just business/”

I take a deep breath.

“Vane has high-end mercenaries and Grit has a crew of street fighters with nothing to lose. When you corner men moving millions of dollars in raw street product, they don’t care about rules or survival. They just fight to kill.”

“I know,” Locke says quietly. He doesn’t try to dismiss my fear. He doesn’t give me cheap, easy platitudes or pretend that what they’re about to do is safe. “I know, baby.”

“Okay.” I exhale hard. “Thank you for not treating me like an idiot.”

“But the thing is, we’re going in with absolute superior force. We hold the choke points, we hold the timing, and we hold every inch of the high ground. Your father and brother and I built this trap so that we don’t take unnecessary losses. We do this clean, and we finish it for good.”

“I just want you home,” I whisper, tracing the word ‘Always’ on my silver cuff. “I just want you to walk back through the door.”

“I am coming home to you,” Locke says. “I’m coming back to our penthouse, to our bed, and to you. Do you hear me, Zara? Nothing in this world is keeping me from you.”

“You promise me, Locke,” I say, pressing the phone hard against my ear, desperate to feel his presence. “You promise me you won’t take stupid risks.”

“I promise,” he says softly. “I’m playing this cold, baby. Absolute precision.”

A heavy silence stretches between us, filled with all the unsaid words, the terrifying stakes, and the deep, unbreakable bond that has pulled us through every nightmare Knox threw at us.

This is the reality of the life we live, the sharp, brutal boundary where the high-level strategy ends and the blood on the pavement begins. No matter how smart you are, no matter how much money

you control or how clean your moves are, at the end of the day, the club survives by force.

And when that force is deployed, the women are left waiting in the dark, holding their breath, waiting for the smoke to clear.

“I have to go, baby,” Locke says, the sound of boots approaching his office door cutting through the line. “The chase teams are rolling down to the lower staging area now.”
