Chapter 51

Waylon jolted, a wave of shock and frustration washing over him as he realized he had never imagined a teenage girl could be so capable.

He opened his mouth but couldn’t speak for a long moment, finally pressing his lips together with reluctant acceptance. “Fine, you can join the operation. But it’s dangerous. You must stay behind us and follow all orders.”

Even though Nova had taken his pistol without him noticing, his tone still carried distrust.

It was understandable. It was impossible for Waylon to fully believe that a girl could contribute in such a high-stakes situation. To him, Nova was at best a barely useful addition.

Nova spun the pistol she had taken from Waylon with casual ease. Though a firearms enthusiast, she tossed it back to him without hesitation.

Finn, a well-trained special forces member, caught it steadily.

Ignoring Waylon’s warning, Nova turned to Jordan. “Is killing permitted during the operation?” she asked.

Her calm tone starkly contrasted with her shocking question.

Even Jordan and his team members, as special forces soldiers, hesitated at the word “killing.” yet this seemingly ordinary schoolgirl showed no fear, as if discussing the weather.

Her question sent a chill down the spines of Jordan, Waylon, and the others.

A sharp-faced team member replied, “Lethal force is authorized if they resist violently or are armed.”

Nova lifted her chin slightly and responded, “Understood.”

Her voice was soft, but a faint, almost imperceptible flicker of excitement crossed her eyes.

Anyone who knew her well would recognize it as an unmistakable sign to another wave of bloodshed.

Nova swiftly tied her long hair into a high ponytail, instantly looking sharper and more focused.

Securing her hair to avoid interference was her standard pre-operation routine-something she never skipped before an operation.

Just then, a member in the corner said, “Jose just texted me. The timing is right. Let’s move out”

On the deserted outskirts of Ravenport, due to real estate disputes, this cluster of long-neglected buildings had become forgotten ruins.

Many structures were only foundations and frames, unfinished and unattended, left open for anyone to enter.

After arriving with the team, Nova met two more of Jordan’s members. These two were the ones tracking these international fugitives.

Jose Howard, who had sent the message, was one of the two men. Seeing them, he immediately reported, “The targets haven’t noticed they’re being followed, but the situation is trickier than expected.

“Wyatt and I confirmed with binoculars. They’re well-armed, ten handguns, two machine guns. Is a forced breach too risky?”

Nová stayed silent but keenly noticed the scrutinizing looks from Jose and Wyatt Jones.

She just stood quietly to the side, looking as relaxed as if she were on vacation, which earned her a displeased glare from Waylon.

Waylon glared at her and declared firmly. “This is our best chance. We can’t miss it. These fugitives are cunning. If we engage on campus or in public, innocent people will get hurt. So we have to take them down here.”

The group fell into uneasy silence, struggling to decide.

Just then, Nova said, “Haven’t you noticed yet? We’re surrounded.” Her tone was as casual as if commenting on a game, not a

life-or-death situation.

“What?” Waylon frowned irritably. Before he could say anymore, a rapid series of sniper shots rang out from above.

The team members were all highly trained. They instinctively dodged.

Jordan shouted. “Snipers! We’re exposed. Take cover, now!”

They quickly rolled behind the nearest barriers. Out of the corners of his eye, Jordan saw Nova sidestep smoothly, evading the sniper fire with ease.

Instead of hiding, she stood calmly within the sniper’s optimal range, casually twirling a pistol she had taken from Jordan’s holster in the chaos.

She looked up, a charming smile forming on her rosy lips, her eyes glinting with the cold light of a predator.

Then, she did something that left Jordan, Waylon, and the other special forces soldiers stunned, an act they would never forget.
